Previously, Amber shared that she felt a mix of relief and sadness after being diagnosed with ADHD when she appeared on Good Morning Britain last month.
The television figure candidly discussed how her untreated ADHD impacted her life following Love Island, only receiving a diagnosis at the age of 24.
On live TV, during a conversation with Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, Amber revealed her diagnosis for the first time. She mentioned that as a child in school, she thought she was just a misbehaving student. She believed she was constantly being reprimanded, easily distracted, and frequently removed from classes for various reasons.
Reflecting on the past, I realize now that I wasn’t enjoying my school days as much as I should have. In retrospect, it seems clearer that there were issues at hand, and it’s somewhat disheartening to think about how unnoticed they were. It all slipped by without drawing much attention, which feels a bit sad when I look back on it.
She added: ‘I think I always functioned just a little bit differently to everyone else. Luckily in the past few years, it has been talked about a lot more and I just kept thinking to myself, “maybe you’ve got ADHD and that’s the reason that you’re struggling to get work done”.
After seeking diagnosis, I discovered that I indeed had it. The sensation was a blend of relief and sorrow. Relief due to finally understanding why my brain functions differently from others, but also sadness for the years I spent in school without a proper diagnosis.
In her explanation, she characterized ADHD as having two primary forms: the first being the hyperactive kind, often associated with energetic boys in school settings, and the second one being the inattentive type, which better describes my condition.
It seems challenging for me to focus on tasks, as I’m frequently sidetracked. It’s often inner issues that make it tough, but they aren’t always easy to identify because they don’t show up clearly.
