Love Island USA star Cierra Ortega’s parents break silence after her shock exit following racist slur scandal
After staying quiet on the matter, Love Island USA’s Cierra Ortega’s parents finally spoke out following her departure from season seven due to old offensive social media messages.
On Sunday, the reality star’s 25-year-old parents posted a message on their daughter’s Instagram story about the “toughest weeks” they’ve ever experienced.
After the television broadcast on Peacock that evening, it was announced by the narrator, Iain Stirling, that Ortega departed the villa because of a personal matter. This action, in turn, made Nic Vansteenberghe officially single.
In the subsequent sequence, he was seen conversing with Ace Green, expressing his uncertainty about his future plans – a conversation that took place only a week before the season was due to wrap up.
During her time shooting in Fiji, disconnected from social media platforms, the controversial posts made by her on Instagram, using racial slurs against Chinese individuals on at least two instances, were brought to light by enthusiasts of the show “Love Island”.
Cierra’s parents said, ‘We’ve noticed the posts, the news headlines, and the pain and anger they’ve caused. Although Cierra herself hasn’t seen any of it, we have, as well as those who care for her deeply.’

‘We recognize and empathize with the feelings that have been stirred up. We understand the importance of accountability, but the current online situation has escalated beyond that. The threats, harsh words, and attacks on her loved ones, including her family, friends, and supporters, are truly disheartening. Such behavior is unwarranted and no one should be subjected to such hate, regardless of any mistakes they might have made.’
They went on to say: ‘Although Cierra is no longer in the villa, she remains absent. She hasn’t had the opportunity to work through these events or express herself yet. However, we are well-acquainted with our daughter. We know her spirit. And when she comes back, we expect she will handle this situation with sincerity, development, and poise. Though she will forever be our little girl, she is also a grown woman who will address these matters in her own pace and in her own words.’
‘In the meantime, we kindly appeal for understanding and empathy. We ask for tolerance and fundamental kindness, not just for her but for all those affected by this situation. A big thank you to those who have continued to show care, even when it might seem challenging. With warm regards, her family.’
During this latest run of Love Island USA, there’s been a whirlwind of uproar due to a contestant causing outrage with previous racist remarks, leading to their dismissal from the show, and subsequent termination after fans discovered an underlying racial incident off-set.
A few weeks ago, I found myself leaving the villa during season seven, initially introduced as one of the original Islanders. Since my departure, I’ve faced criticism from some quarters, but I’ve chosen to respond by standing up against online bullies and the unhealthy aspects of cancel culture.
In the opening of the second episode, she was no longer there, with Iain Stirling mentioning in his introduction that she had “departed the villa.
In Miami, a 27-year-old real estate specialist found herself out of work on the third day, following the public release of videos where she was heard using a racial slur (the N-word) during a podcast discussion.
Following Escobar’s quick departure, many spectators were eagerly awaiting a similar outcome for Ortega, a vibrant 25-year-old content creator hailing from Phoenix, who made his appearance on the second day.

In the past, Instagram postings have emerged that show her making racist remarks directed at Chinese individuals on two different occasions, both happening several years ago.
One January 2015 social media post displayed a picture of her standing atop a mountain, employing an offensive term to express her radiant smile.
In February 2023, I shared an Instagram story revealing my Botox sessions, unfortunately using a derogatory term to describe my grin. This has sparked outrage among my followers, who are demanding swift action against me.
It’s uncertain whether the show’s creators will eliminate her character just as Escobar was, but Ortega has experienced a slight decrease in her Instagram following.
She had lost over 200K followers since the posts had resurfaced
During Love Island Season 7, Ortega was on track to surpass 1 million followers. However, as of now, she has amassed 695,000 followers instead.
Many at the time had called for her to be kicked off the island.

A supporter, identified as @deannacortes, circulated the petition’s URL, urging, “Bring back Cierra Ortega,” using the relevant hashtags such as #racist, #LoveIslandUSA, and #stopasianhate.
A different user, ShaneAnime1990, firmly stated that ‘If Cierra Ortega allegedly used a racist term once, then she should be cancelled as she might repeat the action in the future.’
Cass Rabbit (@cassrabbit) addressed both @LoveIslandUSA and @Peacock in a tweet, stating, ‘Please remove Cierra Ortega from your program. This is the third instance I’ve noticed her using a derogatory term for Asians. Just as you rightfully expelled Yulissa for using the N-word, shouldn’t the same apply to Cierra? Or does racial discrimination against Asians not concern you?’
A different user by the handle @h0td1lfj0hnny posed a question: “Why hasn’t Cierra not been expelled from the villa…? She seems to be using racial slurs.
The user commented, “You all quickly removed Yulissa, but not Cierra? Why isn’t Cierra still in the villa…she’s using racial slurs.” #loveislandusa #LoveIslandUSA
User @SSTARZZNE commented, “Hopefully cierra will end up at the bottom of the vote now that her allegedly racist behavior has been revealed. #LoveIslandUSA.
In simpler terms, “@mainopvirgo” stated, “Yulissa used a racial slur (specifically, the offensive ‘n-word’) and was removed from the show because of justified public anger. Now, isn’t that similar to Cierra saying another racial slur, with no excuse for her actions?
