Love Island star reveals she’s pregnant with her first child just two months after getting engaged – following her candid revelations about previous miscarriage and abortion

Love Island’s Sharon Gaffka announced she and her fiancé, Matthew Torbitt, are expecting a baby.

The 30-year-old, known for her reality TV appearances and recent political activism, announced her pregnancy on Instagram Sunday. She shared professional photos showing off her baby bump for the first time, joking, ‘I can’t hide it anymore!’

The couple, engaged in December, announced they are expecting a baby. Photos showed them reading a newspaper with an ultrasound picture on the front page, revealing the due date as July 2026.

Sharing beautiful photos, Sharon happily revealed she’s expecting a baby! She joked that while she’d imagined spending her 30th birthday feeling unwell, this incredible news is a much better surprise. Baby Gaffka-Torbitt is due soon.

As soon as the news broke, she received a flood of congratulatory messages from her fans and friends, especially those she met on Love Island.

Georgia Harrison, who had a baby in November, sent her congratulations, writing, “So happy for you!” Kaz Kamwi also expressed her excitement, saying, “So special!!!! Congratulations!” with heart emojis.

MAFS UK stars showered a couple with congratulations! Ella Morgan wrote, “Omg congrats beautiful! So happy for you both ❤️”, while Abigail Rawlings exclaimed, “OMG!!!!!! Congratulations to you both!! ❤️❤️” and Molly Smith simply said, “Congratulations!!!❤️❤️”

Georgia Townend sent a lovely message saying, ‘Congratulations, you look amazing! You’re going to be a wonderful mum!’ and Liberty Poole simply wrote, ‘Congrats, so happy for you!’ Both included lots of heart emojis.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen so much joy shared online lately! It was heartwarming to see Paige Thorne and Olivia Hawkins both express their excitement and congratulations – Paige wrote ‘Oh my goodness! Congratulations what a blessing!’ and Olivia sweetly called the recipient ‘angel’ while sharing her happiness for them. It’s lovely to witness such genuine support and celebration between friends.

Matthew announced the news on X, jokingly referencing his and Sharon’s political backgrounds. He wrote: ‘Big news: Matthew Torbitt and Sharon Gaffka are joining forces. We’re expecting a new addition in 2026!’

Sharon shared on Instagram that the beginning of her pregnancy wasn’t easy. She posted an old photo from December showing her looking unhappy and bundled up in bed.

Honestly, planning my 30th birthday was so exciting, but I unfortunately had to cancel everything. I was really struggling with awful morning sickness and some frustrating skin problems – it got so bad, it was actually bringing me to tears. It was a tough time, but I’m focusing on feeling better now.

Oh my gosh, I was so excited when I saw this picture! It’s from December, and she was planning this amazing girls’ weekend to celebrate turning 30… I’ve been following her for years, and I remember seeing little hints about it back then. It looked like it was going to be epic!

‘But instead, I was busy making a human out of @nandosuk mash and @dashdrinks cans of water.

I was incredibly sick, throwing up constantly, and developed a painful rash. My skin was extremely dry and itchy, and nothing seemed to help. On top of everything, I felt completely exhausted.

Sharon and Matthew recently announced they’re expecting a baby. This news comes just a few months after they shared that they were engaged, with Matthew proposing during a December trip to Sweden.

She shared a cute photo of herself and her partner, showing off her beautiful diamond and gold ring, and announced they got engaged while hiking at an altitude of 2091 meters.

Fans were surprised by the news, as Sharon had only recently revealed she was in a relationship back in March. She had kept her dating life private since appearing on Love Island.

The government employee was on the show in 2021, but surprisingly, she didn’t seem to care about becoming famous. She emphasized that getting back to her job in the civil service was her top priority.

She currently dedicates her time to advocating against violence towards women and girls, and also works as an ambassador for the domestic violence charity Refuge.

Matthew, who is engaged to be married, is also known as a political commentator. He often appears on television and radio to share his opinions on current events and social topics.

He is also a Homelessness and Prison Reform Advocate and a former Labour Advisor.

I was so moved when Sharon shared her personal story last October, talking about her past experiences with abortion and miscarriage during Baby Loss Awareness Week. It took incredible courage, and now, I’m thrilled for her as she prepares to welcome her first child. It feels like such a hopeful moment after everything she’s been through.

She shared in August 2023 that she experienced a miscarriage in 2021, shortly after appearing on Love Island. She described the grief as overwhelming and sudden.

She posted a sad photo on Instagram and explained she’d been gathering the courage to talk about a loss she’d been dealing with for the past year and a half. She also confessed she was worried about how people would react if she shared her experience with a miscarriage.

It absolutely broke my heart to hear Sharon talk about her pain. She shared that the week was especially difficult because it would have been her baby’s first birthday, and the grief just overwhelmed her – she said it felt like being hit by a train. It was such a raw and honest description of her loss.

I remember when she first opened up about it – she said things had been unbelievably difficult, and she just couldn’t go on as usual. It wasn’t about wanting people to feel sorry for her, she explained, but more about needing to share what was happening so she could start to heal. It really resonated with me, honestly.

In June 2025, Sharon shared her experience of having an early medical abortion at home, describing it as a painful, isolating, and traumatic event.

She stated that while she doesn’t regret her abortion, it was the most difficult decision of her life.

However, in October, she shared that after courageously telling her story, she received cruel and hateful messages. These messages included comparisons to Lucy Letby, a child serial killer, and threats to reveal her personal information online.

In a conversation on the Her Discussions Podcast with Dr. Faye Bate, Sharon shared that making the decision was still the most difficult thing she’s ever done. She firmly believes it was the correct choice, regardless of whether it was objectively ‘right’ or not.

I have no regrets. People sometimes say I chose the easy path, but I assure you, it was incredibly difficult.

After having an abortion, I experienced significant emotional distress and received truly awful messages, including being compared to Lucy Letby and threats of having my personal information publicly revealed. It was a deeply traumatic experience.

In recognition of Baby Loss Awareness Week, she posted a heartfelt message explaining how both her miscarriage and abortion profoundly impacted her life and deserve understanding and empathy.

This week is Baby Loss Awareness Week, and it’s been difficult deciding whether to share this. Both my miscarriage and abortion have profoundly impacted me, and I’m still discovering how.

‘Both were losses. Both changed me. Both deserve compassion.

Experiencing baby loss brings a mix of intense emotions – sadness, regret, a sense of release, and love – all at once. If you’ve gone through this, please remember you’re not by yourself.
