Demi Jones, known from the show Love Island, has bravely opened up about her cancer diagnosis, which she received when she was only 22 years old.
I was so shocked to hear that my favorite reality star, who’s only 27, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer back in May 2021. She found a lump on her neck, and that led to the diagnosis. It’s just heartbreaking, but I’m sending her all my support!
I’ve been thinking a lot about my cancer journey lately, and I recently shared some of the most meaningful moments in a new post. I’m partnering with the Teenage Cancer Trust to help raise awareness, and it felt important to be open about my experiences.
She described feeling incredibly happy when she left the show Love Island, but that feeling soon gave way to concern when she noticed a lump on her neck that wouldn’t go away.
As a longtime fan, it was so brave of Demi to share details about her health journey. She explained she had surgery to remove half of her thyroid, and honestly, it was incredibly moving to hear her talk about learning to embrace her scar – it really resonated with me and showed so much strength.
She concluded her post by sharing a realization: four years later, she understood there wasn’t a return to how things were before her cancer diagnosis. Life had changed permanently – there was life before cancer, and life after.

She also shared a picture outside the hospital on the day that she was told she was cancer free.
In her #StillMe campaign, Demi is opening up about her experiences with cancer, including how it affected her body image and the important moments throughout her journey.
We want every young person facing cancer to remember that while it may change your appearance, it can’t diminish your spirit or who you are as a person.

In June 2023, Demi announced she was cancer-free and spoke about struggling with self-esteem while undergoing treatment.
Demi shared with the Daily Mail that after monthly hospital visits following her diagnosis, doctors gave her the good news that she no longer needed to go.
Demi shared some great news: after three years of monthly hospital visits, doctors have given her a clean bill of health! She last went to the hospital about three weeks ago and they confirmed she no longer needs to go, and they will now send her medication directly.
She added: ‘I feel very liberated this year and can get back to being me!’

She shared that dealing with low self-esteem was tough, explaining that being on the show created a lot of pressure to fit a certain beauty standard. As a naturally curvy woman, she felt particularly pressured to maintain the appearance she presented on Instagram.
After battling thyroid cancer and thankfully recovering, I felt energized and ready to embrace life again. However, I’d gained some weight during treatment – about two stone – and my clothes no longer fit. That’s when I focused on my appearance; while true beauty comes from within, taking care of myself physically really boosted my confidence.
I now understand that self-confidence comes from within. When you’re truly happy with who you are, that confidence naturally shines through. If I’d been pessimistic, my recovery would have taken much longer and been far more difficult.
The television personality underwent two surgeries and treatment after doctors discovered a tumor about the size of a golf ball in her neck.
This disease affects the thyroid, a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck, just below the Adam’s apple.
Tell-tale signs include a lump on the neck, swollen lymph nodes in the neck and hoarseness.
Demi shared updates about her fight with cancer to help raise awareness about the disease.
It was a tough time because everything felt more intense, especially since it was happening in my personal life – which is hard enough on its own. But I felt it was important to share what I’d been through.
Honestly, if I hadn’t opened up, I think I would have completely fallen apart. I couldn’t have kept up the facade of being okay online while secretly struggling so much. But talking about what I was going through… it was a lifesaver. And then, people actually *told* me my story helped *them*? That’s what really pulled me through. It was incredible, knowing I wasn’t alone and could actually make a difference.
Like many former contestants, Demi is now enjoying life after the show by traveling, creating content for her fans, and partnering with popular brands like Shein and St. Moriz.
With over 1.1 million followers on Instagram, she’s managed to cultivate a large online community and has developed strategies for handling negative comments.
The influencer shared that they’ve built up a lot of resilience to online negativity. They’ve heard so many critical comments that they often just laugh them off, reminding themselves that opinions from strangers don’t really matter.
She confessed to editing her social media photos, stating that any influencer who claims they don’t is being dishonest.
‘But I don’t do it to the point that it doesn’t look like me, it is just a wrinkle or a smoother.

It’s really important for influencers to be upfront about things and focus on what genuinely makes them happy. If something feels good, they should go for it. I often have to remind myself, and others, that a lot of what we see on social media isn’t authentic.
Demi rose to prominence on the first winter edition of Love Island in 2020. She initially coupled up with Luke Mabbott, but they broke up after three months.
