Love Island is rocked by explosive Graftie Awards as the villa turns on Joey Essex leaving his relationship with Jessy Potts in jeopardy
As someone who has watched Love Island religiously for seasons, I must admit that Joey Essex’s behavior towards Mimii during that week was quite intriguing and dramatic. His actions, fueled by his past experiences as a reality TV star on shows like TOWIE, seemed to add more tension and drama to the villa.
As the Love Island finale approached within a few days, the tension among the contestants didn’t subside.
On Sundays, the Graftie awards brought excitement to the villa as the Islanders received nominations. These recognitions were based on votes from the public. Among them were the categories “Most Lopsided” and “Most Dramatic Act.”
Just like a classic Movie Night, we watched clips that ignited heated arguments and appeared to damage friendships.
At the awards ceremony, Joey Essex, aged 33, stood out with a total of three nominations in the categories: “Most Provocative Personality,” “Most Flirtatious Act,” and “Unresolved Matters.”
At the award for Most Flirtatious Performance, clips of him flirting with Lola, the seductive vixen, were played on the jumbo screen, causing Jessy Potts to roll her eyes disapprovingly: “You started using that ‘troublemaker’ line with me first… If she tried harder to win you over, would you have passed the challenge?”
When clips for the nominees for ‘Unfinished Business’ were shown things really kicked off.
I’ve been there before, feeling the tension in the room as two people confess their feelings for each other, only to have someone like Joey rain on their parade with his sarcastic remarks and persistent questioning. It can be a painful experience, especially when you’re trying to navigate the complexities of human emotions.
Josh clapped back: ‘The question is, do you still fancy her?’
“Joey gestured towards his girlfriend, and Jessica responded, ‘Check out mine. My relationship with Grace is significantly distinct.'”
As an obsessed fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I watched the nominations unfold on the Islander reality show. Grace and Joey, two familiar faces, were among those in danger of being eliminated. My heart skipped a beat as I recalled past clips where Joey expressed his belief that Grace, an ex-girlfriend he once dated before the show, still harbored feelings for him. The anticipation was palpable!
As an obsessed fan, I couldn’t help but feel my heart race when I heard him tell Jessy, “I believe she’s clinging to you because she can’t be with me.” With a smirk and a nod towards the villa, he declared, “Let me set the record straight.”
Grace shot straight back saying: ‘No offence Jessy but I didn’t need you as a friend in here.’
Reuben then said: ‘She’s in your head rent free bro, you keep bringing it up for a reason.’
Grace responded with nonchalance: “I apparently reside rent-free in your thoughts. I truly couldn’t care less why that bothers you.”
Supporters enthusiastically expressed their opinions on X, collectively reaching a consensus that it is indeed Joey who harbors lingering feelings for his past love interest, based on the ‘Unfinished Business’ category.

Also in the episode, the villa called Joey out on his failed ‘secret mission’.
Previously in the week, Mimii Ngulube, aged 24, asked Joey to discreetly summon Ayo Odukoya to the terrace for a private conversation with her.
With great care, she moved on all fours over the terrace, maintaining a concealed posture among the other inhabitants of the island, until he arrived to meet her.
When Joey called Ayo, age 25, over for a conversation to let him know that Mimii was ready for him on the terrace, but Ayo declined and walked away instead, leaving Mimii as the unfortunate choice for ‘Ultimate Fail’.
During the course of the week, Joey increased the tension among the other Islanders. He revealed to them during a game called “Couple Goals” that he had participated in a clandestine task.
Later, he hinted at the relationship between Josh and Mimii implying there was more to it. However, he remained tight-lipped and kept the details a secret.
If Ayo wasn’t present on the terrace, then Mimii became a likely candidate for failure, as evidence included her sitting on the floor and Ayo declining an invitation from Joey.
After seeing Mimii collapse in the villa, the ex-TOWIE celebrity expressed, “It seemed a little provocative to me.”
Mimii responded by stating that she didn’t appreciate Joey’s actions and made it seem more significant. “I was simply sitting there,” she explained to clarify.
Josh commented, “When you use the term ‘secret mission,’ it makes me uneasy and I suspect another deceitful situation is unfolding.”
Mimii then added: ‘The reason this has been a whole ‘secret mission’ is cos it’s come from you.’
When she received her accolade, she looked at Joey and remarked, “I’m not particularly in the mood for your teasing today.”
Joey wasn’t done expressing his thoughts: “I believe it’s unfair for me to take the blame when the issue isn’t really my doing. I was placed in that situation. I find this quite presumptuous of you. Frankly, I’m quite displeased.”
