Love Island frontwoman Maya Jama reveals she ‘prides herself’ on not using cue cards and tells fan to ‘shut up’ after being criticised for ‘unbiased’ hosting style

On Monday night, Maya Jama received extensive acclaim for her exceptional hosting abilities during the Love Island finale, prompting enthusiastic fans to shower praises upon her on platform X.

Following the conclusion of the event, the leading figure, who has been at the helm of the show since 2022, expressed their thoughts on the popular social media platform in response to the affectionate fans.

In one of her interviews, Maya received appreciation for going without cue cards, a detail that she was happy others noticed.

‘Aww! I’m glad you noticed my lack of Que cards, so thank you.’

‘[Indeed] @MayaJama enjoyed that interview to the fullest without any cues or notes. #LoveIsland’, and she offered a behind-the-scenes perspective in reply. Maya replied by saying: ‘That’s sweet! I appreciate you spotting my no-notes approach, so thank you.’

‘That’s adorable! I’m glad you saw my unscripted performance, so thank you.’

To complement her authentic hosting approach, she also boldly reprimanded a spectator who suggested she needed to be impartial, even as she stood firm in her beliefs – retorting with a blunt “be quiet” in response to the backlash over a heartfelt scene.

On Monday, Maya oversaw the operation while she conducted the live finale that culminated in Toni Laites and Cach Mercer winning.

As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to share that my beloved partner and I clinched the number one spot, outpacing Shakira Khan aged 22 and Harry Cooksley at 30. Meanwhile, Yasmin Pettet, 24, and Jamie Rhodes, 26, took home the third place, while Ty Isherwood, 23, and Angel Swift, 26, finished just behind us in fourth position.

Numerous amusing, questionable, and embarrassing incidents occurred throughout the program, with many of them happening specifically during Maya’s interviews with celebrities.

She was praised for her professionalism in the face of scandals.

Enjoying compliments from her fans, Maya expressed her gratitude with a heart symbol when a fan commented: ‘A true broadcasting talent has emerged alongside you, Maya. We recognize that you’re the genuine article who worked your way up to success…’

‘Not one of these tiktok-influencer turned journalists you get these days.’

One notable instance in Maya’s interviews occurred as Toni’s former partner, Harrison Solomon (age 22), visibly displayed skepticism with a roll of his eyes upon Maya’s remark concerning Harrison’s conduct on the program.

In a straightforward manner, Maya observed: ‘You mentioned that you gained quite a bit from being here…’, to which Toni responded emphatically: ‘Absolutely correct!’

As an enthusiastic follower, I asked Toni, “What have been the most valuable lessons you’ve learned so far?” To which she wisely responded, “Never tolerate less than respectful treatment from men.

The camera then went to Harrison sitting with partner Lauren Wood, 26, at a table in the audience.

After she made a jibe at him, the soccer player repeatedly gave suggestive glances skyward, followed by her taunting the crowd’s applause by mimicking it himself.

He then rolled his eyes again when she revealed to the audience that Cach had dropped the L-Bomb.

In 2023, Maya expressed her confidence in being the ideal candidate when she shared with British Vogue, “I’ve been an ardent admirer of the series ever since its debut. I’m well-versed in all its aspects…

In my commitment to share data and insights, I find myself becoming more than just a provider. I’m eager to connect on a deeper level, so it often feels natural for me to say something like, “Hey, have you considered this perspective about that person?” or “I just want to make sure we’re both on the same page.” It’s all part of being here for you, my friend.
