Love Island boss reveals contestants could be faced with their EXES in the villa as show brings dramatic twists for its sexiest season yet
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! It seems that this season on Love Island, they’re planning to shake things up by bringing exes into the villa! Can you imagine the drama? Who will stay loyal and who will succumb to temptation? Bring it on, producers! This is going to be a season for the history books!
Starting June 9th, I’m thrilled to be part of the return of the ITV2 dating show. This week, we unveiled the complete cast that will be joining us for another round of romantic entanglements, secret rendezvous in bedrooms, and, let’s face it, a fair share of complicated breakups.
This year’s contestants include a doppelganger for Declan Rice, a fire-performer, and someone who closely resembles Maura Higgins. The show is promising an unprecedented number of surprises and turns to celebrate its 10-year milestone.
The Creative Director of the show has hinted at an upcoming surprise for this group of Islanders, suggesting that they might encounter some of their past lovers unexpectedly, like fireworks.
In conversation with The Sun, ITV’s Mike Spencer-Hayter remarked: ‘Here’s a rule of thumb I often use – once the cast members are let go, former partners tend to surface. That’s when the surprises or revelations occur.’

They’ll need to proceed with the process, as we’ve prepared an array of exceptional surprises. Some of these surprises are relatively unknown to many, adding a layer of intrigue.
The selection crew has been diligently working for some time, attending numerous gatherings and scouting locations for potential candidates. I believe they’ve done an exceptional job. Rest assured, we still have some stunning talent yet to arrive.
After Mike shared with The Mail that the inaugural week of the fresh season would feature a significant event, as they aim to spice things up by discarding the usual guidelines for the popular series.
Previously, the audience experienced an unexpected twist when popular star Joey Essex, aged 34, made his entrance into the villa last year, which elicited a range of responses from viewers.
Inquired about the possibility of inviting another well-known TV personality or celebrity as a contestant this year, Mike mentioned that there would be an unexpected twist instead.
This year won’t see any past Love Island contestants joining the show, but something significant is planned for week one. Rest assured, it won’t be another reality TV personality like Joey Essex.
We’ve got an exciting first week lined up. It’s nothing like what you might expect, yet it’s completely fresh. This season, the way islanders form couples is going to be a twist you won’t see coming!
Instead of relying solely on audience appreciation, let’s continue to make the show thrilling. Feel free to break away from traditional rules a bit.

Additionally, it was disclosed that this season’s villa managers are considering trios (throuples) among the contestants, with the aim of introducing fresh furnishings to stimulate romantic entanglements and add excitement.
Among the latest features is a trampoline placed over the swimming pool, and the executive from Love Island ensures that it’s safe for use by up to four individuals after thorough testing.
The secluded retreat, equipped with a bed and hot tub, is accessible round-the-clock to individuals not in relationships.
The private sanctuary featuring a bed and hot tub is now open 24/7 for singles.
He shared with the Mail, “We’ve introduced a new trampoline designed to accommodate four people. It’s been tested to ensure it can handle the weight. Our aim is to continually update and enhance the entertainment experience, and this addition achieves just that.
The TV executive disclosed that ITV might air private moments, provided they occur, following a five-year period during which such Islander’s romantic activities were not shown on the network.
Initially, the television series was renowned for depicting a variety of mischievous activities by the participants within the villa. Intimate moments were often captured between celebrities, including cozy encounters beneath the blankets, and on some occasions, suggestive scenes occurred in the cupboard.
Mike shared that they needed to significantly change their approach this year, as viewership numbers had decreased due to the show’s gradual loss of edge and excitement over time.
The hideaway remains open round-the-clock for individual customers, except when accompanied by a partner. We informed the island residents about this possibility last year, yet they often seemed to overlook it.

Over and over, we’ve encountered the same situations, and frankly, it’s become monotonous. It’s high time for a change. The atmosphere seemed stagnant, and we need to inject some new energy into the production to make it feel vibrant and exciting once more.
As a devotee, I’ve noticed that each newcomer tends to follow a familiar pattern. This is because they’ve all seen it repeated numerous times. Over time, it seems to lose its original charm and becomes overly formulaic.
Let’s keep moving ahead. Regardless of the ups and downs, we’re determined to put our best effort into making this a thrilling sequence of events.
The executives at ITV aim to enhance both the new villa and the series with a touch of elegance, so as not to make it monotonous or dull.
To add more suspense, they’ve reduced the size of the famous balcony, a popular spot where contestants seeking privacy to share intimate moments might choose to do so.
But Mike confirmed the days of hiding away from prying eyes is all over.
The walls of the terrace have been made shorter and more transparent, providing a better view from above. It seemed overly enclosed before, so we decided to change it for more openness. In other words, you’ll be able to see more and maybe hear some extra chatter or gossip.
Love Island has faced criticism for consistently featuring slim singles with similar bodily proportions season after season.

Despite the fact that participants in this TV show live together for as long as eight weeks, it’s frequently pointed out that it lacks scenes of people having meals, which some argue could potentially promote eating disorders and unhealthy body image expectations.
Even though they’re served meals by personal chefs, ITV doesn’t show the islanders eating because meal times are regarded as leisure time and aren’t captured on camera due to practical issues such as the noise of eating interfering with microphone recordings.
However, this season’s contestants are going to have their meals inside the villa for the very first time!
In today’s world, it’s important that we demonstrate it, the Love Island producer stated. Frequently, viewers inquire about the location and time when the islanders have their lunches and dinners. However, this season, you will actually get to witness those meals being filmed on camera.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but echo Mike’s words when he mentioned the source of the intriguing drama among the islanders – it seems their chats are skillfully crafted to keep us glued to our screens!
He mentioned that conversations often take place during meals, though these may or may not be included in the final cut. However, there’s usually a lot of hushed conversation, which has consistently been the case.
Occasionally, their understanding of the information may be limited since they haven’t witnessed it yet. But soon, they will have a chance to observe it.
