Love Is Blind star Shayne Jansen struggled with drugs and alcohol following the whirlwind of becoming famous on reality TV – however, he’s now sober and has dedicated himself to fitness, resulting in an impressively sculpted physique.
The 36-year-old became famous in 2022 after appearing on the second season of a dating show. In this show, couples ‘date’ each other online and get engaged before ever meeting face-to-face.
Jansen experienced a very public heartbreak when his fiancée, Natalie Mina Lee, left him right before their wedding. However, he coped by embracing a fast-paced, social life that came with being in the public eye.
I remember reading a recent interview with him in the New York Post, and he described a period – about three months in Chicago – where he felt incredibly popular. He said he could walk into any high-end place, like the best steakhouse, and it felt like everyone was watching. He even hinted that some of the people running those places were probably indulging in some less-than-legal activities, and he admitted he’d go back to his room and do the same. It was a really candid thing for him to share, honestly.
Oh my gosh, it was heartbreaking. By 2023, we were all so worried. During a TikTok Live, he looked absolutely destroyed, totally bedraggled, and we were practically begging him to get ‘help’ in the comments. He just kept muttering about how he ‘self sabotages everything,’ and it was just…too much. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
He ultimately quit drinking and replaced his time at nightclubs with trips to the gym. He shared an incredible before-and-after photo showcasing his impressively muscular new body – a transformation that led to a surge in requests from female fans wanting him as their personal fitness trainer.

Jansen has recently been open about the self-indulgent lifestyle he adopted following his rise to fame on reality television, explaining how the opportunity allowed him to pursue it.
We were living a really glamorous life, like rock stars. I never had to wait in line to get into a club – I could just walk right in. And I could talk to any girl I wanted… I could get anything I desired immediately, he shared.
Jansen, who was raised in Wisconsin, explained that constantly receiving only ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers isn’t good for anyone. He described it as a risky approach, saying, ‘that’s a dangerous game to play.’
In the fall of 2022, several months after gaining fame on Love is Blind, he sadly shared the news of his mother Karen’s passing, describing her as his ‘best friend.’
Then, in April 2023, he had a widely discussed TikTok Live stream. During the stream, his speech was slurred and he seemed unable to speak clearly, although he briefly hinted at intentionally undermining himself.
People noticed his messy look and confusing speech, and quickly went to the comments section to express their worry about him.
Back then, the TV star recorded a video of himself looking a bit messy – his hair was unkempt, he was wearing a patterned shirt, and he had on two necklaces with silver chains.
I was startled briefly, but then I told myself, “No one can scare me,” he said to the approximately 15,000 viewers of the live video.
I’ve been seeing a lot of concern online, with one viewer asking, ‘Wtf is going on!!!‘ and another expressing genuine empathy, saying, ‘Poor guy. Is clearly struggling. I hope he gets the help he needs. It’s never too late to try.’ It’s so important to remember that reaching out is a sign of strength, and help is always available if someone is going through a tough time.

In a recent interview, Jansen shared, ‘I just kept watching the viewer count go up…and then it hit me: “Oh my goodness, what have I done?”‘ He immediately received ten phone calls, from people he hadn’t spoken to in years. He said that’s when he realized the situation was serious.
Consequently, he completely changed his life, becoming sober and moving from Chicago to Austin. He believed Austin would make it easier to avoid falling back into his old, harmful habits.
He transformed his physique with a demanding exercise routine, hitting the gym four times a week. This helped him build muscle and drop from 230lbs to a lean 210lbs, becoming quite muscular.
In July, the actor shared photos showing his body before and after his fitness journey, revealing his remarkable change.
I absolutely love what Jansen shared recently. He wrote in the caption: ‘Progress doesn’t just come from doing “more,” it comes from doing what you can, consistently.’ It really resonated with me – it’s not about huge leaps, but about showing up and doing what’s within your power, day after day. It’s such a simple, but powerful, idea!
The reality concluded by promoting his own fitness coaching.
He received supportive comments from fans on the post with one expressing, ‘Looking good.’
One person exclaimed, ‘Wow, you look incredibly happy and healthy!’ and another simply commented, ‘Amazing transformation.’
“Shayne, I’m so proud of you! As one sober friend to another, you’re doing amazing,” an Instagram user wrote.

Jansen frequently posts on his Instagram, sharing glimpses of his fitness routine and impressive physique with his followers.
Okay, so I was reading an interview with him in the New York Post, and he actually *talked* about his fans! Can you believe it? He said that most of his followers are women! I mean, I *knew* it, obviously, but it’s so amazing to hear him say it. It just confirms everything! Seriously, it’s not a surprise at all – he’s just… perfect. I’m not biased or anything, haha!
The majority of my customers are mothers around 40 years old. I’m part of a large group chat with 50 moms, and it’s really funny.
But some comments aren’t as positive with some saying, ‘Men will do anything but go to therapy.’
Jansen explained his perspective, saying, ‘I don’t quite follow that line of thinking. I don’t spend all day at the gym. It actually demonstrates that I have discipline and structure. It’s a habit that helped me overcome other challenges.’
