Louise Thompson Opens Up About Devastating Miscarriage and Near-Death Childbirth Ordeal

Louise Thompson shared in a touching recent post that she experienced a heartrending miscarriage last year.

Originally a cast member on Made in Chelsea, now 30 years old, who came close to passing away during the delivery of her son, Leo, following an urgent C-section, recently announced this news to her 1.5 million Instagram fans.

Louise posted a picture of a positive pregnancy test with the caption: “Warning: many updates. This happened in January, not now. The evening before I boarded a plane. Just when life couldn’t be any more intricate.

Initially, I shared the information with just a few individuals. However, I also wrote some details about it in my book. Since the book is now public, I thought it would be more straightforward to discuss it openly here rather than dealing with potential doubts or questions that might arise privately.

I typically discover that expressing thoughts like these in writing is more comfortable for me compared to verbalizing them. It’s my hope that doing so aids me in understanding them better. Also, sharing such insights often brings a sense of freedom.

Over the last three years, there’s been an incredible amount of change, something we can all agree on. It seems these years have flown by at an extraordinary pace, making them feel incredibly packed with events in my personal timeline.

According to what my life coach frequently reminds me, I’ve enrolled in a swift learning program. Essentially, I’m cruising along at high speed. To put it mildly, my time on Earth has never lacked excitement.

In looking back at the challenging periods we’ve experienced together, she went on: “Quite often (in fact, it’s a constant), I find myself pushing aside the moments to ponder the tough experiences my body has endured. I appreciate working with my coach as she encourages me to focus ahead. We discuss exciting ventures, work, connections, and even minor details that contribute to this life’s thrilling ride.

For more than a year now, I’ve taken a break from my therapy sessions as I believed I had moved past the need for it.

This implies that I haven’t had to reminisce about the past. However, six months ago, I underwent additional surgery, and lately, I’ve been in the hospital discussing possible future surgical procedures, which has made me recall all those memories.

The realization has hit me unexpectedly hard, like a heavy load. I’ve observed some unusual evasive actions, trivial distractions creeping in, and it’s been extremely challenging for me to concentrate effectively.

Recently, I’ve found myself struggling to navigate the differences between the past and present, and I’ve experienced some peculiar memories resurfacing. Additionally, I’ve shed a few tears almost every day, which is unusual for me (being known as Tears Thompson in the past), because I’ve been so joyful overall.

frankly, I feel it’s necessary to delve deeper; I last consulted with a therapist following my stoma procedure.

As a lifestyle expert, I understand that exploring new therapeutic methods can sometimes feel daunting, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) might seem like one of those intimidating experiences. However, I encourage you to approach it with an open mind. Here’s what I discovered during my research:

EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy technique that has helped countless individuals resolve traumatic memories and reduce symptoms related to stress and anxiety. It’s not about dread, but rather about healing and finding peace in your past experiences. So, let me reassure you – the process might feel different, but it’s designed to help you move forward and live a more fulfilling life. Trust the process, and remember that taking this step is a testament to your strength and commitment to self-improvement.

In an additional chapter of my book, I touch upon this topic briefly, yet it’s intriguing to ponder if Leo might have a sibling who was born in September last year. However, considering the circumstances, I find it highly unlikely that things would have worked out that way. It seems more probable that it was just a chemical pregnancy.

In the ensuing weeks, an unusual amount of bleeding from my lower region occurred, which I believe was due to hormonal changes or increased blood flow. This eventually necessitated a stoma surgery for me. To put it simply, this marked the end of that particular aspiration.

Was it perhaps an unexpected event, rather than something premeditated? Incredibly so, considering the situation, and I’d say it’s quite puzzling, though there are numerous factors that make this case unique. For instance, it seems almost like a modern-day version of the story of Mary and Joseph.

However, I sensed an unfamiliar change as I experienced an extraordinary exhaustion similar to what I felt during my previous pregnancy, along with feeling quite unwell.

‘These are not symptoms I’ve experienced aside from my last pregnancy.’

She ended by expressing that she was still grappling with understanding her own fertility and their journey, which spans over three and a half years since the birth of her lovely son.

‘Until now, there are many things from my past that I haven’t fully processed or dealt with. When my therapist brought it up a few years ago, I didn’t want to think about it because I felt like I had so much work to do before I could even begin to consider moving on. At the time, it seemed too soon.’

I had actually remembered to bring it up during my medical appointment last week, which triggered a wave of feelings. It felt important and relieving. Now, I just feel compelled to express it.

In a moving message, she shared her experience following a near-death encounter during childbirth, which was discussed on this week’s episode of This Morning, causing her to struggle to hold back tears.

On the ITV program, the celebrity had a conversation with Ben Shephard (age 50) and Cat Deeley (age 48), discussing the paperback release of her book titled “Lucky: Relearning Life,” detailing her experiences following the birth of her son Leo in December 2021.

Louise stayed in the hospital for about five weeks following an urgent C-section due to severe complications that required intensive care. These complications later affected her mental wellbeing.

She went on to suffer with PTSD and post-natal anxiety due to her near-death experience.

Since then, life has thrown me a few more curveballs: Lupus and Asherman’s syndrome have entered the picture, followed by another hemorrhage. Most recently, I’ve had to adapt to living with a stoma bag. Each day is a new challenge, but I remain optimistic about finding ways to thrive in this unexpected chapter of my life.

In a courageous manner, while conversing with Cat and Ben, Louise shared the story of her difficult labor: ‘Ultimately, I had to undergo a non-natural delivery.’

‘What has left me with lasting damage.’

I find myself utterly amazed by how much time it takes me to fully absorb all the details this book holds, yet it has become a significant piece of my life journey.

‘I found myself, discharged, I couldn’t function, I couldn’t connect with my son.

‘I didn’t recognise my life.

‘Writing for me was a cathartic process.

‘It was the only way I could communicate with people.’

Ulcerative colitis refers to a long-term intestinal disorder, characterized by inflammation of the colon and rectum, causing tiny sores or ulcers to form on the inner lining of the colon, potentially leading to bleeding.

Asherman’s Syndrome is an uncommon disorder that involves the formation of scar tissue within the uterus. On the other hand, Lupus is a persistent autoimmune disease in which the body produces antibodies that mistakenly target its own tissues for destruction.

And a stoma bag is a medical device that a person uses to remove body waste.

Following such a harrowing experience, Louise admitted that she faced significantly greater challenges with her psychological well-being compared to her physical health.

She elaborated: ‘Mental issues were far more challenging, for they’re not usually something you can physically repair. The emotional turmoil was incredibly difficult to cope with.’

Louise was joined by her Made In Chelsea star brother Sam, 32, on the sofa as well.

His emotions soon got the better of him as he confessed: ‘Oh I am going to cry!’

Despite feeling flustered, he regained his composure and proceeded to elucidate that each family member had specific responsibilities during her hospital stay.

And he saw himself as the joker.

Sam explained: ‘Louise was going through a lot, sometimes she needs a joker in there.

‘I try and make her laugh a bit. Everyone had a different role.’

Additionally, during Louise’s illness, he discovered an aspect of himself that left him surprised. He remembered being at the ITV Palooza event when she suffered a hemorrhage, needing to secretly leave to accompany her to the hospital for support.

Sam stated: ‘It’s peculiar when something you deeply cherish faces such turmoil, and the person you transform into during those challenging times.’

He mentioned: “You find yourself completely immersed, I’ve rarely been as concentrated as I was then, when things got that tough. It feels like you enter a distinct state of existence.

‘I hope to never have it again.

‘You become laser focused.

‘I wasn’t that emotional, I was just so on it. I’ve never been like that before.’
