Louise Minchin reveals she thought she was going to die when her appendix burst just six days after giving birth to her daughter Mia

As an avid fan and admirer of Louise Minchin, I find her resilience and strength truly inspiring. Her life experiences have not only shaped her as a broadcaster but also as a remarkable human being. From surviving a burst appendix just six days after giving birth to overcoming the harrowing ordeal of being stalked, Louise has faced adversity with grace and determination.

Louise Minchin disclosed that she believed she was on the verge of death when her appendix ruptured six days following childbirth.

56-year-old broadcasting personality from the UK, along with her husband who they’ve been married for 26 years, have two daughters: Mia, aged 22, and Scarlett, aged 19.

On this week’s edition of Gabby Logan’s The Mid Point podcast, I shared some deeply personal experiences that unfolded after the arrival of my daughter Mia, when I encountered a harrowing medical ordeal.

Louise, who departed from BBC Breakfast in September 2021 following 20 years of service, had been feeling discomfort prior to giving birth, which was dismissed because she was heavily pregnant at the time.

Just a few days after bringing Mia home, Louise herself fell critically ill. While she was still in the hospital, her appendix ruptured, leaving her fearing for her life.

‘A week after she was born I had a burst appendix so that was really, really serious,’ she said.

During my initial pregnancy experience, there were times when I expressed concerns about a persistent pain, only to be met with the response, “But you’re carrying a baby; isn’t some discomfort expected?” However, I continued to express my worry as it didn’t seem normal.

Louise mentioned that exactly six days after her baby was born, there was an incident that occurred while she was still at the hospital. It was quite dramatic and extremely distressing, and it was the only time she needed assistance because she felt as if she might not survive.

Louise and her daughter, Mia, encountered yet another distressing incident involving a stalker.

Involved in the situation were both the mother and daughter, who were specifically singled out by Carl Davies, an ex-military personnel and former boyfriend of Nicola Roberts from the band Girls Aloud.

In December 2021, Davies received a sentence of two years and eight months in prison for posting several threatening messages on social media accounts belonging to a broadcaster and her daughter from July 14 to 17, 2020. The intention behind these messages was to instill maximum fear and distress.

In the 2022 documentary “Louise Minchin: The Truth About Stalking,” Mia shared her experience: ‘Suddenly, a flurry of messages began appearing on my mother’s Instagram account where I was logged in.’

They were extremely disrespectful, using harsh and unpleasant language towards us. Their behavior became increasingly explicit and vulgar. The things they threatened to do to my mom and me were deeply personal and highly inappropriate; it was an uncomfortable and distressing experience overall.

As a lifestyle guide, let me share an experience that left me quite unsettled. Last night, fear gripped me so tightly it felt like I was quivering from head to toe. My heart pounded at an unusually rapid pace, keeping me awake throughout the entire night. The following day, my eyes were inundated with tears, unable to hide the emotional turmoil that had taken hold of me.

She noted that the experience left an enduring impact, expressing: “While I walk, I remain mindful of those following me, being careful not to wear headphones when it’s dark or there are no other people nearby.

On Gabby’s podcast, Louise was asked about how she copes with traumatic incidences.

She mentioned that she usually prefers to store things and keep them secure, but she doesn’t believe this solution is definitive.

In reference to her harrowing experience with stalking, Louise remarked, “I’ve encountered numerous challenging situations throughout my life, which I usually store away and close off.

‘I’m not saying that’s a good thing but now it’s in a box and hopefully stays locked.’

2022 article in The Daily Telegraph reported her as finding it “shiver-inducing” to realize that an unknown individual, who intended to cause her harm, was aware of her address and had been at her doorstep.

In Davies’ communications, there were explicit threats and details suggesting he was aware of the family’s residence and had previously been to the same location.

Louise shared with the publication that she encountered an individual who seemed to possess information beyond what could be found by simply searching her online.

The information he possessed regarding my residence was quite unsettling; it suggests that he must have been observing my house very closely.
