Louis Tomlinson emotionally says he will ‘never accept’ Liam Payne’s death following the first anniversary of his tragic passing

Louis Tomlinson has shared his grief, stating he’ll never come to terms with Liam Payne’s death, marking the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.

Former One Direction singer, reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2024, and died as a result.

A later toxicology report showed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system.

In a new interview, Louis, 33, emotionally spoke about his friend and former bandmate’s passing.

He admitted he’d mistakenly believed that by now, he’d be more accustomed to dealing with loss than others his age.

Louis experienced the heartbreaking loss of his mother, Joanna Deaken, to leukemia in 2016. Just three years later, he tragically lost his 18-year-old sister, Félicité, due to an accidental overdose.

He continued to The Independent: ‘I thought that might mean something, but it didn’t at all.

‘It’s something I’ll never really accept. I don’t think.’

On the first anniversary of Liam’s passing, his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, publicly shared the painful memories of their last moments together, as an outpouring of tributes continued to come in.

A fun TikTok video shows Liam jokingly trying to lift Kate into the air.

After trying multiple times, they both started laughing when Liam couldn’t manage the trick.

Kate, 26, shared a previously unreleased video with a heartfelt message: ‘This video captures the final hour and day Liam and I spent together.’

I’ll always cherish the wonderful times we had together, Liam. I’ll miss you always.

Earlier that day, Kate posted a cute photo of her and Liam in bed, with him kissing her cheek.

Liam’s sister, Ruth, also wrote a touching tribute. She shared a cute picture of Liam dressed as a pirate.

No matter how I count it – a year, twelve months, fifty-two weeks, or three hundred and sixty-five days – it all comes down to the same painful reality: you’re gone, and I miss you terribly.

I used to be sad when you’d leave on tour, knowing you’d eventually return. But now, it feels impossible to reconnect – we can’t meet anywhere, even a simple call or text is out of reach. It’s a constant ache, like a longing for a past that can’t be revisited.

Ruth admitted she’ll never understand Liam’s death and shared that she repeatedly has nightmares about his last moments in the hotel room.

Meanwhile, his older sister Nicola described his loss as a ‘pain that will never heal’.

In a heartfelt tribute, she shared personal photos and explained how the family has lovingly kept the memory of their loved one alive for his eight-year-old son, Bear, wanting him to ‘know all about his amazing daddy’.

In a touching message, she shared how she’s been helping his niece, Ffion, remember him by explaining that he’s become like a star, a rainbow, a butterfly, or a cloud – something beautiful that’s always there.

She sadly shared that she was at home with Ffion when they learned of her brother’s terrible death. He had fallen from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires.

The night before his anniversary, Liam’s ex-wife, Cheryl, 42, was seen at a party celebrating her friend and former bandmate Nicola Roberts’ 40th birthday, appearing to be doing okay despite the occasion.

Cheryl has been seen in public only twice since attending the funeral of her former partner and the father of her son, Bear.
