Louis Theroux shares health update amid alopecia battle: ‘Preparing for a full head shave’

Louis Theroux has released a new statement updating fans on his ongoing battle with alopecia.

For a number of years now, the documentary maker at the BBC has been battling with a hair loss issue. He made his condition public back in 2022 when he revealed his diagnosis.

On social media, Theroux announced that he’s planning a significant transformation due to his ongoing balding process, which he’s choosing to accept.

On Instagram, Theroux uploaded a series of selfies showcasing his freshly cut short hairstyle and admitted that he’s contemplating going even shorter with the style.

From the latest news in my world (Alopecia-land), I’ve chosen a shorter hairstyle as I found out that longer hair didn’t suit me well due to its appearance.

However, it’s quite sparse and I might end up completely shaving my head within the upcoming year.

Later, Theroux shared that he intends to draw inspiration for his new look from well-known bald celebrities like Stanley Tucci and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

He described himself as having large glasses reminiscent of Tucci, bulky muscles like Dwayne Johnson, and always tanned. He referred to this combination as ‘the secret recipe’.

Back in the ’90s, I was rocking a seriously long mane, and the other day, I dug up an old pic to share it. (The BBC star is me, for context.)

He mentioned, “I found an old photo from 1994 that I came across yesterday as a reminder of the constant issue I had with my hair, which will become less and less of a concern for me over time since it’s diminishing.” He added humorously, “It’s similar to when your house burns down. ‘At least I don’t have to clean anymore!’

On previous occasions, Theroux has spoken about his altered look due to his battles with alopecia.

In 2023, the celebrity sought suggestions from his online audience when he unexpectedly lost a large part of his eyebrows.

After several months, he decided to give it a try and opted for a type of “temporary eyebrow makeup” instead.

In his Instagram post, he expressed joy at regaining his familiar appearance. He mentioned that the newly shaped eyebrows were tidier and more defined compared to how they naturally were before.
