Lou Dobbs, Conservative Pundit and Longtime TV Host for Fox Business and CNN, Dies at 78
As an admirer, I deeply mourn the loss of Lou Dobbs, a legendary figure in cable news who dedicated his career to shining a light on the complexities of American politics and economics. His passing at 78 is a great loss not only for his family but also for those of us who were inspired by his unwavering commitment to truth-telling and his unique perspective on current events.
Legendary conservative commentator and long-time cable TV host, Lou Dobbs, passed away at the age of 78 in New York. Known for his tenure at CNN as a founding anchor and later becoming a familiar figure on Fox Business Network for over a decade.
On Thursdays, an announcement about his passing was made on his authentic X platform, expressing that he was a determined fighter until the end, dedicated to defending what held greatest significance to him: God, loved ones, and the nation.

I’ve had the privilege of hosting “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on Fox Business from 2011 to 2021, after two tenures at CNN preceding that.
Fox News Media said in a statement that the network was saddened by Dobbs’ passing.
“Lou, an extraordinary entrepreneur and broadcaster, played a pivotal role in transforming cable news into a thriving and impactful sector. We deeply appreciate his accomplishments and extend our sincere sympathies to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
During Trump’s campaign for the White House and throughout his presidency, Dobbs was an ardent and vocal advocate. Following Dobbs’ passing on Thursday, Trump expressed condolences on Truth Social, referring to him as a friend and an exceptional journalist, reporter, and talent.
Trump posted: “He had a deeper comprehension of the world and its events than most. Uniquely gifted, Lou was deeply patriotic and cherished our nation. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Debi and their loved ones during this difficult time. His presence will be profoundly missed.”
In 2023, Dominion Voting Systems filed a lawsuit against Fox News, including Dobbs, for spreading false information about the 2020 presidential election. The case was settled for $787 million through mediation, avoiding a trial. Ample evidence, some critical and some merely embarrassing, revealed that several Fox executives and on-air personalities, such as Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, and Jeanine Pirro, didn’t genuinely believe the election lies they broadcasted. At that time, they were concerned about losing their Trump supporter audience if they presented the truth.
For approximately two decades, Dobbs was a part of CNN starting from its inception in 1980 and presented the show “Moneyline.” In 2009, he departed from CNN and collaborated with media tycoon Rupert Murdoch to establish Fox Business.
Upon joining Fox, he identified as an underdog. Fast forward a few years, and his show gained immense popularity, making him a prominent figure on the conservative television platform.

Lou Dobbs’ nightly Fox show shared the same name as the one he departed from CNN in 2009, following some uncomfortable final years. Previously, Dobbs was a prominent figure in television business journalism with his “Moneyline” program during the 1990s. However, Dobbs’ increasingly vocal opinions and focus on limiting illegal immigration made CNN executives uneasy, while also sparking anger from Latino communities.
Dobbs dove into the complex public policy and economic issues that drive society.
Dobbs said he always wanted to be straight with his viewers about his own views on issues.
In 2011, he shared that his listeners have consistently looked to him for background information, and he saw no need to deviate from their expectations.
