LOTR: Nuremberg & Furiosa Stars Could Lead The Hunt for Gollum’s Cast

Recent reports hint that two up-and-coming actors are being considered for leading roles in a new movie set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s world. This news comes as production continues on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

Leo Woodall and Anya Taylor-Joy rumored for new Lord of the Rings movie

Sources say Leo Woodall and Anya Taylor-Joy are potential leads in the new Lord of the Rings film focusing on Gollum. Film news outlet ScreenTime reported on X (formerly Twitter) that both actors are in early discussions for the main roles.

As the team gets ready to film the movie directed by Andy Serkis, rumors are circulating about who will be cast. According to scooper DanielRPK (via World of Reel), Anya Taylor-Joy is being considered for a role. While details about the character are still unknown, some believe she might play an elf.

Okay, so the buzz is getting stronger about a potential prequel. Word on the street is they’re looking at Leo Woodall to take on the role of a younger Aragorn. Apparently, they did reach out to Viggo Mortensen to reprise the part, but he wasn’t interested in returning. That’s led them down the path of finding someone who can embody a younger version of the character. It’s a big role to fill, obviously, but Woodall seems to be a frontrunner at the moment.

“The Hunt for Gollum” happens at the same time as the events in “The Fellowship of the Ring,” just before Frodo leaves the Shire for Rivendell. Gandalf tasks Aragorn with finding Gollum, hoping to keep him out of the hands of Mordor and prevent them from learning about the One Ring. Andy Serkis directed the film and also stars alongside Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen.

Filming for the new Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum, will begin in New Zealand in May. This will be the first live-action movie set in Middle-earth since the conclusion of The Hobbit films. The movie is expected to be released on December 17, 2027.
