As a huge music fan, I was thrilled to hear that Los Tigres del Norte achieved something new this weekend! They’ve earned countless gold and platinum records over the years, but this was the first time they’ve gone yellow – apparently referring to a special award or recognition. It’s always exciting to see legends like them reach another milestone.
The Grammy-winning band recently appeared as animated characters on “The Simpsons.” In the Sunday episode, they performed a brand-new song—a corrido telling the story of Homer Simpson and Pedro Chespirito, famous as the Bumblebee Man.
Fans were excited about the surprise team-up, which the show had been teasing on social media leading up to the group’s appearance on Friday.
New York City is paying tribute to Los Tigres del Norte by naming a street after the band, just before they perform at Madison Square Garden.
The Simpsons’ Instagram page announced that the band Los Tigres del Norte will perform their original song, “El Corrido de Pedro y Homero,” on FOX this Sunday. The post included photos from the episode featuring the performance.
The band “Jaula de Oro” is credited at the end of the episode, and their song summarizes the funny events involving Homer and Pedro. Within The Simpsons, Pedro Chespirito is a character who appears on the Spanish-language comedy show “Channel Ocho.” This character is inspired by the famous Mexican comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, nicknamed “Chespirito.” The Bumblebee Man is based on Gómez Bolaños’ character “El Chapulín Colorado,” and “Channel Ocho” references his most popular creation, El Chavo del Ocho.
As a huge fan of both The Simpsons and Los Tigres Del Norte, I was so thrilled to hear they’re now part of the show’s universe! I read their statement to Rolling Stone, and it really resonated with me. They expressed how honored they are that their music and stories are connecting with people across different cultures and generations, and how powerful music is – powerful enough, they said, to even reach Springfield! It’s just a fantastic moment for both of these iconic entities, and I can’t wait to see (and hear!) what comes of it.
According to head writer Cesar Mazariegos, the band was featured on the show as a way to acknowledge and celebrate its large and dedicated fanbase in Latin America, especially fans of Mexican and Mexican-American heritage.

The iconic band discusses their new single, ‘La Lotería,’ and performing at Folsom State Prison – a venue made famous by Johnny Cash’s concert there 50 years ago.
Mazariegos described them as global icons. He explained that when he contacted them about contributing a song while they were already touring, he didn’t expect a response. He was incredibly excited when they agreed to participate.
Alejandro González Iñárritu, the Oscar-winning Mexican director, made an appearance and voiced himself on Sunday’s episode.
Los Tigres del Norte are just the latest in a long list of music icons to appear on “The Simpsons.” Other famous musicians featured on the show include U2, Paul McCartney, Green Day, Ringo Starr, Sting, and Dolly Parton.
Springfield has also featured other Latinx artists, like Tito Puente, Linda Ronstadt, and Los Lobos. More recently, in 2021, Bad Bunny appeared in “The Simpsons” with an animated music video for his song “Te Deseo Lo Mejor,” bringing him into the show’s world.
