Los Tigres del Norte get a New York City street named in their honor
Over almost six decades, the band Los Tigres del Norte has had their name everywhere on charts, signs, and seven Grammy Awards, and they’ve recently earned a street named after them in New York City.
On a Thursday, the renowned Mexican music band, known for its history, appeared in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. The occasion was the unveiling of Los Tigres del Norte Way, with fans gathered all around.
Beginning from now, a street in Brooklyn has been named after Los Tigres del Norte, as stated in their Instagram post yesterday evening. We appreciate your companionship, both today and forever.
As a passionate film-goer, I can’t help but share my excitement over some intriguing news! Legendary musicians have shared plans for the release of their new single, ‘La Lotería,’ and an exceptional opportunity to perform at Folsom State Prison – exactly 50 years after Johnny Cash graced that same stage. I can hardly wait!
A sign featuring local lore from Sinaloa is positioned at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 47th Street in Brooklyn, surrounded by numerous eateries serving Latin cuisine.
For numerous years, Jorge Hernandez, vocalist and accordion player, has been visiting New York. He shared this during an interview on Wednesday with Fox 5 New York. He expressed that they’ve managed to forge connections within the community, which is why they were chosen today to have a street named after them. They are extremely thrilled about being honored tomorrow.
On the very same day, the artists from “La Puerta Negra” unveiled their newest five-track EP titled “La Lotería.” Notably, the title song is a sociopolitical ballad, which employs the symbolism of the well-known Mexican bingo game to address contemporary issues such as immigration and the past administration’s criminal activities of the current U.S. president.
On May 24th, the band is set to make its debut performance at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City, marking the end of their current tour along the Eastern seaboard. Following this, they will play at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, California on June 13th, and then again in Del Mar, California on June 15th.
Entertainment & Arts
Jorge Hernandez and his Los Tigres del Norte bandmates talk about their Hollywood influences.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must confess that last Thursday wasn’t the first occasion where I felt the “Jaula de Oro” band was given a special tribute. A distinguished segment of W. 26th Street in the heart of Chicago proudly bears their name, a testament to their remarkable 12-time Latin Grammy victories. This street winds its way through the vibrant Little Village neighborhood, often referred to as the “Mexico of the Midwest,” due to its substantial Mexican American population, which makes up around 80% of its residents.
In 2014, Los Tigres del Norte received a local honor in a quintessentially L.A. fashion – by receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In June, Monterey County officials plan to honor the group with a lifetime achievement award for their persistent efforts in immigration advocacy. This recognition comes prior to their scheduled performance in Salinas, California.
