Lorraine Kelly Slams Criticism Over Four-Day Workweek and Defends Cancel Culture Stance
Lorraine Kelly firmly believes that no one, including Gregg Wallace, should face the penalty of being “cancelled,” as she expressed her views on the backlash surrounding her support for a four-day workweek.
In the heat of my unwavering admiration for the culinary realm, I found myself compelled to address recent rumors surrounding MasterChef’s esteemed judge, Gregg Wallace. Allegations have been made that he engaged in inappropriate banter and harassed contestants, which he firmly denies. As a devoted fan, these claims left me perplexed and saddened, as I had always admired his passion for food and the encouragement he provided to aspiring chefs. However, it is essential to allow due process and consider both sides of the story before forming any conclusions.
In recent months, Lorraine, the presenter, has been straightforward with her views, critiquing the TV industry as ‘toxic’ and calling out Gregg’s actions as ‘unacceptable.’
Although previously criticizing the TV chef, Lorraine has recently stated in an interview with Woman & Home that she doesn’t support cancel culture. In her opinion, no one should be “cancelled” for their beliefs, except for truly heinous actions.
In simpler terms, if someone acts improperly, causing discomfort to others, it’s important to address the issue so they can offer an apology.
I firmly disapprove of individuals promoting such behavior, and regrettably, instances like the one involving Gregg Wallace have occurred in the past.

In simpler terms, ‘As a leader, it’s important to sometimes say “No”. In my television career, I haven’t needed to deny anyone a request yet. However, in newspapers, I have had to assert myself and stand up for my beliefs.’
I don’t support the idea of silencing or canceling individuals. It’s crucial to listen to their perspectives first, so you can think, “They are acting irrationally and making no sense at all.” However, one should not be ostracized for their beliefs unless they involve truly heinous actions.
She stated: ‘Even if I believe you might be the most arrogant individual who has ever existed on this planet, you still have the right to share your perspective. Engaging with people who hold differing views prevents us from living in an insular environment where we only validate our own self-importance.’
Lorraine stood up for her work schedule following some teasing online about her missing ITV show appearances, as other hosts frequently took over in her stead.
After observing her frequent absences multiple times, one enigmatic individual chose to establish a profile called “LorraineKWatch” on X platform, in order to monitor and record the number of episodes the host, aged 65, presented her own show for a complete year.
Hitting back at her critics, she insisted she’s been ‘working five days a week for 40 years’.
Lorraine mentioned that not working on Fridays allows her some breathing room, making her schedule align with everyone else’s.
‘Phil and Holly used to do four days, lovely Ben and Cat do four. Susanna does four and three.

At the outset, I had some reservations due to my long-standing routine of working five days a week for four decades. Adjusting to something new felt a bit challenging.
She acknowledged: “At times, it’s crucial to pause and acknowledge the blessings we have, and this realization has undoubtedly simplified things for me amidst my mother’s ill health.
‘She’s currently dealing with a severe kidney issue, but she’s managing well at the moment. In terms of caring for her, having Billie around and focusing on writing have proven to be quite beneficial changes.’
She exclaimed enthusiastically: “I simply can’t stop watching this show as I adore it so much – if given the chance, I’d keep doing so until I’m 95 years old! What luck to enjoy your job so much, without feeling like Snow White, that I wouldn’t want to?
Instead of the cover photo, Lorraine chose vibrant hues and donned various elegant outfits in shades of orange. For instance, she wore a flared skirt with frills and a silk blouse.

Discussing her encounters with harmful individuals, Lorraine elaborated on her choice to disengage from social media platforms.
The presenter admitted: ‘I don’t do X any more. It’s too toxic and life’s too short. I’m 65.
I don’t mind when someone speaks negatively about me, but in my early career stages, given the type of individual I was in my late twenties and thirties, I would have been greatly affected.
Last year, when Lorraine found the X account that was criticizing her professionalism, she openly shared her experiences with the negative feedback she encountered online.
On Woman’s Hour with host Anita Rani, Lorraine commented humorously about her visibility in others’ minds, saying, “It’s quite strange how much room I seem to take up in people’s thoughts.
Despite asserting that it doesn’t trouble her, she clarified, “It’s all good. I’m unfazed, indifferent. To be honest, I used to care about it, but not anymore – everything is completely fine.

She shared that her absence from several performances was due to her needing to provide care for her ailing mother, who required some time off.
Lorraine added, “It’s best not to make comments about personal matters when you’re not aware of the situation, as I find myself needing to use several Fridays for taking care of my mother who isn’t doing too well.
I can depart now to be with her, spending additional time together and offering more assistance. However, this arrangement will soon shift.
For the past forty years, I’ve worked five days a week. Now, I’m taking a brief break, and since it happens to be half term this week, I’m available for a chat with you!
