Lorraine Kelly hits out at “toxic and nasty” TV industry
Lorraine Kelly has hit out at “toxic and nasty” aspects of the TV industry.
In a recent interview, the presenter from Lorraine voiced her opinions on the Gregg Wallace scandal, expressing disapproval of his reported inappropriate actions and also criticizing those who might be supporting or allowing such behavior.
She shared with Bella Magazine (as reported by The Mirror) that there are toxic individuals in the TV industry. Currently, they are dealing with such challenges.
If the reported actions of Gregg Wallace and others are indeed accurate, they display shockingly poor behavior. Power seems to be unevenly distributed in these situations, leading to its exploitation.
She expressed her disapproval, stating, “What they’re doing is completely wrong, and it should never occur. Yet, it’s astonishing that those close to them would tolerate and facilitate such behavior.” In this way, she was voicing her criticism towards the broader television industry.
“It’s horrible and it’s toxic and nasty. I’ve got no time for people who abuse their power.”
More recently, Wallace took a leave from “MasterChef” following scrutiny over past accusations of misconduct, although his legal representatives claim he did not partake in any sexually inappropriate behavior.
Two holiday-themed episodes of the series were removed from BBC’s Christmas lineup, and it was disclosed that food critic Grace Dent will fill in for Wallace during the upcoming season of Celebrity MasterChef.
In another part of the interview, Kelly expressed thoughts about her professional journey, stating, “I’ve had the privilege of meeting numerous remarkable individuals and accomplishing fantastic feats, all thanks to this position. I’m eternally grateful for it.
My experience has taught me the importance of creating an environment where people feel at ease to share their stories. At the same time, when necessary, I won’t hesitate to speak up if someone needs to be held accountable, whether they are a politician or not.
Lorraine airs on weekdays on ITV at 9am.
