Lorraine Kelly halts show to announce death of co-star
As a dedicated fan who has followed Lorraine Kelly’s show for years, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Heather Sawyer. Her spirit and passion were infectious, and she truly embodied the essence of the Change + Check Choir. Losing her at such a young age is heart-wrenching.
Lorraine Kelly has interrupted her show to announce the death of one of her co-stars.
On October 7th, the presenter paused their show to announce tragically that Heather Sawyer had passed away following a diagnosis of advanced, incurable stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
2023 marked the fifth year of Lorraine’s breast cancer awareness campaign on her show, and I was thrilled to be a part of the Change + Check Choir she established for this special occasion.
regretfully, I must pass along some disheartening news today. One of our exceptional vocalists, Heather Sawyer, tragically passed away due to secondary breast cancer. At just 50 years old, Heather was an extraordinary individual, as Lorraine expressed on the program.
“She was such a huge part of the choir, so passionate about everything. Amazing.”
During their joint appearance, Dr. Hilary commended Lorraine by saying, “She’s simply marvelous. Not only did she perform at the Palladium with a choir, but it was all in support of the Change + Check campaign.
He went on to say, “At this moment, I believe what she’d prefer is a celebration of her life, yet we should also encourage all women to perform regular self-examinations. If anything appears different or unusual, they should promptly visit their doctor and get it checked out immediately.
Sawyer’s death was announced by her husband Lee on Instagram on October 5.
Early on the morning of October 5th, around 1am, Heather’s courageous battle against cancer came to an end. She took her final breaths and passed away peacefully.
It’s clear that a significant number of people have joined Heather on her journey and been impacted by her, as evidenced by the massive amount of messages, voice notes, and the overwhelming use of the #hevupsocials hashtag.
Firstly, let me express our heartfelt gratitude to every single one of you wonderful individuals who took the time to visit, offer well-wishes, or think about Heather during this challenging period. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed and we will forever be thankful for each and every one of you. In her final days, your love and support made her feel incredibly loved.
Lorraine airs on weekday mornings from 9am on ITV.
