Lorraine Kelly accidentally brushes her teeth with washing powder while husband Steve Smith brands the couple ‘minging’ as they leave luxuries behind for Zimbabwe camping trip
Lorraine Kelly and her husband, Steve Smith, have chosen simplicity over luxury for their scenic camping adventure in Zimbabwe.
However, although they were living in less than ideal conditions, the broadcaster, aged 65, along with her longtime partner, seemed to cherish each experience as they ventured closely with hippos and crocs.
While traveling in their RV, Lorraine unintentionally used travel-friendly toothpaste instead of her usual one. Meanwhile, Steve, who has a daughter named Rosie, 31, with his spouse, playfully remarked that since they both had unpleasant odors from the travel wash, their smells were neutralizing each other.
He posted on Instagram a video of their trip, which showed them having dinner outdoors, appreciating the view, and eventually retiring for the night inside their camper van.
Steve titled the video: ‘Yet another fantastic day at Mana Pools. I, however, didn’t use travel wash to brush my teeth before we embarked on our adventure to discover what lay ahead.’
‘There were many elephants, antelopes, warthogs, jackals, hippos, and crocodiles during our visit. The wild dogs have departed, and although we didn’t see any lions, we could hear their roars at night which kept us awake.’

He continued, saying, “Even though we’re both quite messy now, it’s comforting to know that we balance each other out! I’m gradually getting accustomed to the four-wheel drive with its peculiar small gear lever and hub locks. We’ll retire early in the tent around 6, much like toddlers before the creatures hiding in the bush become active.
In Lorraine’s words, she stated that ‘The travel-sized washing liquid and toothpaste were washed together because they were the same size.’
Steve is well-known for preferring to avoid the limelight and often being eclipsed by his wife. Jokingly, she’s said that his vision of hell involves attending a premiere. However, he comprehends the pressures associated with her career in the entertainment industry.
Previously, she expressed to The Mirror: “He takes care of things so that I can, and he has been doing this all along. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish what I do. He makes me laugh quite a bit. He is incredibly kind and an exceptional father.
Lorraine commented, “His concept of eternal torment would resemble attending a premiere. It’d feel like pins pricking his eyes. This gives you an idea. It surely feels peculiar to be with someone who takes pleasure in strolling on a red carpet.
The host also lauded her partner for his support when she was going through perimenopause.
I couldn’t believe it – I was absolutely overwhelmed! My husband could see something was off, he asked me what was wrong and how he could help. It was him who suggested that I needed some assistance.
In 2021, Lorraine shared an uncommon perspective on her marriage with Steve, disclosing that their intimate life was going smoothly.

The daytime talk show host suggested that maintaining intimacy requires self-confidence, and also noted that many older women sometimes feel overlooked or unseen.
She expressed to The Mirror that self-confidence is key, emphasizing that she doesn’t share the feeling of invisibility that many older women experience.
Following reports, Lorraine is said to have sealed a significant agreement with ITV competitor Channel 4, for an expansive travel series on a large budget, following the harsh reductions in her daytime program.
According to The Sun On Sunday, it appears that the morning show hosted by the Scottish presenter has resulted in her significant position as Head of Lorraine being terminated.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that this development is merely the most recent setback for the program. Currently, the show airs hour-long episodes throughout the year, but starting from next year, it will only be shown for 30 weeks, with each episode lasting 30 minutes instead.
Lorraine initially began working with ITV back in 1984, and since then she’s been a regular guest on prominent programs like Good Morning Britain, sharing the screen with Eamonn Holmes.
According to a reliable source, Channel 4 expressed great joy over having Lorraine join their team. Lorraine found it thrilling to take on a fresh challenge and return to working on-site once more.
Regardless of the seemingly minor adjustments made in the ITV daytime reshuffle, Lorraine’s devoted followers should not be taken lightly. They are likely to stay with her no matter where she chooses to go.

The source went on to express disappointment about the reductions and is now exploring potential opportunities in the industry, having gained a new perspective.
A representative for ITV shared with TopMob that starting in January 2026, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women will each be standalone programs, all managed by a single production team, maintaining separate editorial identities.
The alterations we’re making aren’t connected to the quality of the performances or the team behind their creation. In fact, Lorraine recently reached its highest viewer ratio in four years.
Rest assured, our valued viewers, your favorite daytime programs will continue to look the same on your screens.
