Lord of the Rings Star Reveals Shocking Salary for Billion-Dollar Franchise

Elijah Wood, known for his work in The Lord of the Rings films, has subtly suggested that he received relatively small compensation for his part in the blockbuster series which grossed billions.

The 44-year-old actor, who made public his marriage in January, is known for portraying the role of Frodo Baggins in the film series.

At the 2025 Texas Film Awards, he briefly discussed his salary, disclosing that all the films were filmed under one unified agreement.

He stated that since the work wasn’t about producing one film, securing a deal for the next, and then settling into a comfortable financial situation, it didn’t offer the kind of long-term prosperity where you could simply relax for the rest of your career, according to Business Insider’s report.

Wood pointed out that although the salaries weren’t large, the advantage was that we were committing to something that would become an integral part of us for life.

Earlier, their fellow actors, Sean Astin and Orlando Bloom, revealed that they each made approximately $250,000 and $175,000 in total for all three films.

In response to Business Insider’s query about the specific amount he received for his role, Elijah stated that the reported figure was incorrect and held no significance.

He was thrilled to say, “Being involved in those movies has been truly an honor, and they hold some of the most memorable moments from my lifetime.

It has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a fresh chapter in the series, titled “Lord of the Rings: The Quest for Gollum,” is currently being developed.

During the initial quarter earnings call in May, it was David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery who made the revelation.

He mentioned that multiple offshoot initiatives are currently undergoing the initial phase of scriptwriting, and that the upcoming installment of this series is being considered for a launch in the year 2026.

Earlier this year Elijah shared that he wed longtime love Mette-Marie Kongsved.

During an interview on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, he casually referred to the film producer as his “spouse” or “partner.

He added that he felt ‘beyond grateful’ for her as well as his ‘family and kids.’

Following reports to TMZ, it was stated that the couple exchanged vows in a private Swedish ceremony on New Year’s Eve. Approximately 80 guests, including friends and family, were present at this cozy event.

Since 2018, these two sweethearts have been connected romantically, and in 2019, they were blessed with their first child, a baby boy. In 2021, another precious bundle of joy, a little girl, joined their family.

They have not publicly shared the names of their children.
