These are dark times, the average cynic might argue.
But do not despair.
If you choose to focus on what’s going well, it’s clear that the United States is thriving and continuing to improve.
On Thursday, demonstrators protested outside the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” studio in Hollywood. They were objecting to ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel and President Trump’s recent threat to pull broadcasting licenses from networks that are critical of him. This threat came despite Trump and his administration repeatedly claiming to support free speech.
You can call it hypocrisy.
I call it moxie.
As far as I’m aware, no protesters were arrested or removed from the country, and the National Guard wasn’t called in.
Can you see what I’m pointing at? If you look up slightly, you’ll notice the sun peeking through the clouds.
The president recently claimed he read somewhere that news networks were overwhelmingly against him – 97%, to be exact. Some people might view this as a sign of sensitivity to criticism. Others might question where he found this information, especially considering the media often offers positive coverage even when he’s involved in controversial situations, like harming animals or being dishonest in sports.
Trump was understandably annoyed. He’d just finished a press conference in London where he mixed up Albania and Armenia, and struggled to say Azerbaijan, accidentally making it sound like ‘Abracadabra’.
It’s understandable that so many countries begin with the letter ‘A’. Perhaps it’s a chance for everyone to learn something new about geography – or even history!
Let’s turn to the topic of healthcare in the United States. There’s been positive progress in Washington, D.C., particularly with the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Critics say Kennedy has severely damaged the department, halting COVID-19 vaccine research, promoting outdated ideas about diseases like measles, and dismissing experienced public health professionals. They also point to low staff morale and a rejection of established medical science, despite his lack of medical background.
But on the plus side, Kennedy is going after food dyes.
It’s about time, and thank you very much.
I doubt cereals like Trix and Lucky Charms would be very appealing without their artificial colors, and I generally dislike fake food coloring-except maybe in a drink. I suspect most people in the US feel the same way.
Interestingly, President Kennedy is promoting fitness by challenging Americans to do chin-ups and pushups to improve their health.
Honestly, as a film buff, I’m tired of seeing everyone just complain about how things are going. It feels like people are content to just sit and moan instead of actually *doing* something to make a difference. I’d much rather see folks roll up their sleeves and try, even if it’s just a little bit, than endlessly dwell on the negative. It’s time to get proactive, you know?
It’s concerning that proposed cuts under the Trump administration could hinder cancer research. According to the New York Times, programs facing potential elimination include advancements in preventing colorectal cancer, immunotherapy research for cancer prevention, efforts to improve survival rates for children with cancer, and improved screening for women at high risk of breast cancer.
But that could all be fake news, or 97% of it, at least. And if it’s not?
With research funding and opportunities dwindling, doctors, scientists, and climate experts are increasingly looking for work abroad. Some believe this exodus is actually beneficial, as it could create more available housing and ease the current housing shortage.
Thank you, President Trump.
It’s not surprising to see Trump sporting a red “MAGA” hat recently, boldly proclaiming “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!”
Well, mostly everything.
Climate change appears to be real.
The war in Ukraine didn’t end as promised.
The war in the Middle East is still raging.
Grocery prices did not go down on day one, and some goods cost more because of tariffs.
Despite talk of a new economic boom, there’s no clear sign of it happening yet. However, the Trump family businesses appear to have made billions of dollars in profit since he became president.
Despite facing challenges and a decline in his approval ratings since becoming president in January, Donald Trump remains confident. He demonstrates this by openly and proudly wearing his signature bright red “Make America Great Again” hat – he was even handing them out in the Oval Office, where they sell for $25.
It’s another ingenious economic stimulation plan.
And there’s an important lesson here for all of us.
Look, I’m a big believer in never giving up. When life throws you curveballs, you gotta hold your head high, brush yourself off, and… okay, maybe find someone to jokingly take the heat for things. It’s just how I cope, you know?
We should all have our own hats made.
Doctors could wear hats saying they’ve never gotten a diagnosis wrong.
Dentists could wear hats saying they’ve never pulled the wrong tooth.
TV weather forecasters could jokingly wear hats claiming they’ve never made a wrong prediction.
I’m having hats made as you read this.
LOPEZ IS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Please don’t have me fired, Mr. President, if you disagree.
As for Jimmy Kimmel, I’m offering this idea free of charge:
If you were to return to your job, you, Guillermo, and everyone watching should all be wearing hats!
KIMMEL WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!
