Loose Women’s Linda Robson breaks silence on Pauline Quirke dementia diagnosis

Loose Women‘s Linda Robson has spoken about Pauline Quirke’s dementia diagnosis.

They have a long history together, as they acted alongside each other in the 1970 film “Junket 89” and the 1976 comedy show “Pauline’s Quirkes”. However, they are arguably best known for sharing leading roles with Lesley Joseph on the TV series “Birds of a Feather”.

A week ago, it was disclosed that Quirke’s spouse shared the news that she had been diagnosed with dementia in 2021. As a result of this memory-related condition, she will be relinquishing all her professional and business responsibilities.

After the announcement, Robson posted two pictures on her Instagram: one showing them as teens, and another capturing their more recent moments together.

In this caption, she expressed: “I’ll just talk about my dear friend, Pauline, on one occasion.

Over the last three years, I’ve developed a relationship, both personally and professionally, with Steve, her husband, and I’ve had interactions with Pauline herself. It saddens me deeply to witness her battling such a distressing illness. In consideration of her family’s feelings and privacy, I choose not to delve deeper into this topic.

Last week’s announcement was a topic among the members of the Loose Women group. Ruth Langsford and Jane Moore commended Quirke for his efforts in minimizing the social embarrassment associated with the condition.

Beyond her acting career, which included roles in David Copperfield, Broadchurch, Emmerdale, and many other productions, she also established The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts around the year 2000. Over time, this academy expanded to over 200 locations.

In recognition of her work in teaching the performing arts to young individuals throughout the United Kingdom, she received the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the year 2022.

Additional details about dementia can be found through organizations such as the NHS (National Health Service) and Dementia UK. For readers in the United States, relevant resources can be accessed through the National Institutes of Health.
