Loose Women star Kaye Adams reveals Strictly Come Dancing's impact on her mental health after she was the first contestant to be axed two years ago: 'you just feel like a loser'

As I delve into the captivating life story of Kaye Adams, a woman whose career spans over two decades and multiple platforms, I am truly inspired by her resilience and adaptability. A veteran of BBC Radio Scotland, Loose Women, and now a successful podcast host, she has proven that age is simply a number when it comes to making an impact.

Kaye Adams recently disclosed the potential effects that participating in Strictly Come Dancing could have on one’s mental well-being, following her elimination as the initial contestant.

In the year 2022, the Loose Women panel member, aged 61, took part in a popular dance competition. Unfortunately, her performance didn’t quite measure up, and she was swiftly involved in a dreaded dance-off, making her the first contestant to be eliminated.

After confessing to The Mirror, the presenter shared that although she holds no remorse for her tenure on the program, the overall experience has dissuaded her from participating in any comparable shows moving forward.

After leaving the show, Kaye pondered and expressed, “I’m not sure I crave being judged in that manner once more.”

She added: ‘You could go in the jungle, you could try your level best, do everything, but you’re voted out first for whatever reason and you just feel like a loser. I don’t think I need that in my life.’

Recently, the BBC One program has faced criticism over accusations of bullying and reports of aggressive conduct.

Although Kaye admits that her time on Strictly was tough, she attributes this to her own lack of experience rather than the show itself or her dance partner, Kai Widdrington.

Speaking highly of Kai, the host remarked: “Kai was a true gent throughout our partnership. I was thrilled to work alongside him and he exceeded all my expectations.”

She mentioned that she encountered some truly remarkable individuals during her time on Strictly Come Dancing, yet the experience was quite challenging. What viewers don’t realize is the immense effort put into every performance behind the scenes.

She additionally asserted that one should be prepared to ‘expose your emotional side’ and although some individuals handle this easily and react favorably, Kaye confessed that she found it somewhat ‘disconcerting’.

Yet, she admitted that her feelings stemmed from within herself, rather than being influenced by the show or how she was handled.

Initially, Kaye, who performed Tango and Charleston on the program, had anticipated that participating in Strictly would transform her into someone who spontaneously dances at weddings. However, she admitted that this wasn’t the case for her.

Star chuckled while confessing she’s just as clumsy today as she was ten, twenty, or thirty years back.

Although Kaye isn’t planning to join “I’m a Celebrity”, it’s said that there’s another show she’d still be keen to experience.

The star shared with The Mirror her desire to participate in Celebrity Race Around the World, as it doesn’t involve voting, and instead, one is either a winner or not.

Kaye freely acknowledged that, given the chance, she and her kids might very well emerge victorious on the show together.

Kaye resides in Glasgow alongside her partner, who’s a tennis coach, named Ian. The pair share their home with their two lovely daughters, Charley, aged 22, and Bonnie, at 17 years old.

She is a popular host, appearing daily on BBC Radio Scotland and running a successful podcast titled “How to be 60.” However, she is most recognized for being one of the primary anchors on the afternoon talk show, Loose Women.

The lunchtime chat show will mark its 25th anniversary next month and Kaye has been in it from the start having anchored the very first show in 1999.

At that point in time, Kaye was 36 years old, and they mentioned the job would only run for a single month. Surprisingly, though, the show took off like wildfire and achieved enormous success instead.

When asked if she thought the show would last this long, Kaye replied negatively, saying “No way” and hinted that she knew the show might end abruptly, possibly crash-landing.

For quite some time now, this program has garnered numerous accolades and was even nominated for a BAFTA more recently.

The panellists are well known for speaking their minds and occasionally regret what they say.

In my commitment to openness, I must admit that there was an instance during one of my initial performances where I unintentionally caused distress.

In an open conversation about her early experiences as a new mom, the celebrity admitted they were quite challenging and expressed her feelings regarding the show during that period.

On the other hand, Kaye asserted that when her daughter Charley was still young, she found online articles and questioned her whether she disliked being a mother.

Expressing that she was extremely uncomfortable at the moment, the mother of two clarified this to her daughter by stating that it wasn’t true, and she was reminded to be cautious when speaking publicly.

During the interview, Kaye also discussed her How to be 60 podcast, which has seen her interview a host of big-name stars about their thoughts on turning 60.

Kaye shared that as she transitions past menopause and enters her late 50s, there’s a sense of being somewhat secluded or excluded from mainstream discussions in society.

She added that there are a lot of men and women who are getting to that stage in their life where they think they have much more ‘living to do’.

Additionally, she acknowledged that individuals in their sixties aspire to gain both recognition and fulfillment during these years, rather than simply fading away into the distance.

Regarding her future plans, Kaye isn’t certain if retirement will play a role, but she has started brainstorming ideas for her time ahead and is considering learning new hobbies. (The Mirror reported this.)

Additionally, she talked about her partner, Ian, who is passionate about tennis, and shared that after retirement, she might not rule out the possibility of relocating overseas.
