Longlegs sets new record with impressive box-office debut
As a fan of both Nicolas Cage’s acting abilities and the thrill of a well-executed horror mystery, I am absolutely ecstatic about the success of his latest film, “Longlegs.” The box office debut of $22.6 million is nothing short of impressive, surpassing expectations and setting new records for distributor Neon.
Nicolas Cage’s Longlegs has set an impressive new record with its box-office debut.
In the opening weekend at the US box office, the horror mystery earned an impressive $22.6 million, surpassing the revenue of romantic comedy “Fly Me to the Moon” by a considerable margin.
Neon’s groundbreaking debut of this film shattered previous record-high opening weekend box office revenues in the US for the distributor. Following their strategic acquisition for less than $10 million, Neon invested nearly an equal amount – approximately $10 million – on marketing and distribution costs.
Elissa Federoff, Neon’s chief distribution officer, shared her experience, expressing it as, “This journey has been quite an adventure,” stated Federoff in an interview with Variety. “Collaborating with the film’s creative team allowed us to create something truly extraordinary.”
Starting with a uniquely original film and designing a tailor-made marketing strategy to go along with it has the potential to create something truly exceptional.
I’m a big fan of the thrilling narrative where Nicolas Cage embodies the chilling character of Longlegs, a relentless serial killer. Simultaneously, FBI agent Lee Harker, brilliantly portrayed by Maika Monroe from “It Follows,” is hot on his heels in this edge-of-your-seat movie.
As the investigation grows more intricate with cryptic clues emerging, Harker discovers a chilling connection to the murderer and races against time to stop another tragic homicide in his family’s name.
During the widely shared promotional effort, a retro-designed website emerged showcasing the grisly deeds attributed to Longlegs. This online hub included a phone number for visitors to dial and receive a chilling message delivered by Cage’s persona.
This week, Longlegs made its cinema debut and initially garnered a perfect 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the number has since dropped to a commendable 87%.
According to Digital Spy’s assessment, Longlegs isn’t merely among 2024’s top horror films; it ranks as one of the year’s finest movies overall. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable and chilling encounter with Longlegs.
Longlegs is out now in cinemas.
