Long-running police drama gets “heartbreaking” cancellation and fans are furious
SWAT has been cancelled by CBS – again.
Initially, the popular police drama featuring Shemar Moore as Sergeant Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson was canceled after six seasons in May 2023. However, the network swiftly changed their mind only a few days later, reinstating the show for a seventh and final season due to passionate fan responses.
However, in May 2024, SWAT was surprisingly renewed for an eighth season.
Regrettably, it appears that the upcoming season of SWAT will be its last, a fact that has left fans feeling quite sad. This is how Andrew Dettmann, the show’s executive producer and showrunner, has characterized the situation.
As a gamer, I’m genuinely bummed about the recent news. It’s been an absolute joy being part of this team, working alongside this fantastic cast and crew. We’ve poured our hearts into creating a game we could all be proud of, and it’s been an incredible journey.
This group of individuals is nothing short of extraordinary, consistently working tirelessly and remaining dedicated throughout the past eight seasons as they tackled numerous obstacles. I simply cannot express enough gratitude for their efforts. It’s an immense honor to have been a member of the SWAT team.
After hearing about the show’s cancellation, Shemar Moore posted on Instagram a headline from an article wondering if another fan movement might revive it once more.
Addressing our dedicated SWAT enthusiasts, keep up the excitement! Your affection and encouragement are deeply appreciated! (Post caption)
For eight incredible seasons, you’ve been an unwavering force. Not only have we survived two miraculous resurrections, but another comeback could etch our story in history! We’re grateful for your journey alongside us!
Jumping straight into the comments, I couldn’t help but join the chorus, exclaiming my support for SWAT. “Let’s make it happen, Team! Save SWAT!” was my cry.
One person declared, “We’re standing up for SWAT,” while the hashtag “#SaveSWAT” gained popularity alongside their message.
SWAT airs on CBS in the US, and on Sky Max and NOW in the UK.
