Warhorse Studios has launched the highly anticipated next-generation update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Update 1.9.7 brings the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Best of all, it’s a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, letting them play the enhanced version on the latest consoles without spending any extra money.
Warhorse Studios, a Czech developer, first released Kingdom Come: Deliverance in 2018. This RPG was unique for its realistic take on medieval Bohemia, standing out from other role-playing games that typically focused on fantasy. While the first game received generally positive reviews, its challenging gameplay wasn’t for all players, and it had some imperfections as Warhorse’s debut title. The 2025 sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, proved to be a huge hit, earning critical acclaim, commercial success, and even a Game of the Year nomination. Thanks to the sequel’s popularity, many players are now revisiting the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance Officially Arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Players were surprised today when Kingdom Come: Deliverance received a next-gen update, quietly released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The update dramatically improves the game’s graphics, bringing the visual quality of the PC Ultra settings to current-gen consoles and enhancing assets throughout the game. Resolution has been boosted to 2560×1440, and can upscale to 3840×2160, and the game now runs at a smooth 60 frames per second on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to optimizations made to the CryEngine for these consoles.

Players who already own Kingdom Come: Deliverance on older PlayStation and Xbox consoles have something to celebrate! The next-generation update will be available to them at no cost, and they can even continue their existing game saves on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The update also includes various bug fixes and improvements, plus new Czech and Japanese voice-over options. PC players have also received patch 1.9.7, though it doesn’t include the features specific to the console update.
For some time, players have been hoping for an upgraded version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but the developers at Warhorse Studios hadn’t said anything about it. While leaks had hinted at it, the update’s release is still welcome news. With the recent success of the sequel, now is a great time to try the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, especially since it’s now available on Xbox Game Pass.
As a huge fan, I thought last year’s DLC was supposed to be the last one for Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It’s exciting to think about what Warhorse Studios will do next, especially since the game has done so well. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is honestly one of the best RPGs I’ve played in ages, so I’m already looking forward to whatever they create – whether it’s more KCD content or something completely different! I know there’s a ton of us who will be eagerly waiting to see what they come up with next.
