A sequel to the beloved movie Dirty Dancing is finally moving forward. While it was first announced four years ago, the project had faced delays.
The project is now expected to begin filming later this year. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, known for their work on The Hunger Games, will be producing.
Kim Rosenstock, the author of Dying for Sex, will be writing the movie’s script. However, Jonathan Levine, who originally directed the project and is now an executive producer, will no longer be directing the film.

Jennifer Grey, who originally played Baby Houseman, will return for the new film and also serve as an executive producer.
The actor shared in a statement that playing Baby has been a deeply meaningful experience, both for them and for many fans over the years.

I’ve often thought about what happened to Baby and what her life became, but I wanted to make sure the right team was in place to continue the story of the first film. I’m thrilled to announce that we’re finally ready to share the next chapter!
Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson explained that Dirty Dancing is still incredibly popular and that bringing the story back required finding the perfect cast to satisfy devoted fans.
We’re incredibly excited to share that we’ve put together a fantastic team to work on this film, and we’re partnering with Jennifer Grey to make it happen.
We couldn’t ask for better producers for this film than Nina and Brad, who we’ve worked with successfully on The Hunger Games for years. We’re also thrilled to have Kim join the team as our writer.

Now that we have a fantastic team assembled, we’re excited to fully commit to bringing the beloved story of Dirty Dancing to a new generation on the big screen, and sharing its unforgettable music, magic, and emotion with both longtime fans and new audiences.
The classic ’80s film centers on a young woman nicknamed Baby who has a summer romance with dance teacher Johnny Castle (the late Patrick Swayze) while vacationing at a New York resort in the Catskills.
The next movie was originally planned to take place in the 1990s, telling a coming-of-age story with a new young woman whose life connects to Baby’s. However, it’s now uncertain if the movie will still follow that same plot.
The Dirty Dancing sequel is yet to confirm a release date.
