Long-awaited ’90s sequel will be recasting one character: ‘It was not my choice’

Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to a 90s classic, will be recasting one character.

The second part of the movie “Practical Magic,” initially slated for release in September 2026, brings back Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock to portray their characters Gillian and Sally Owens once more, the sisters they played in the original film from 1998.

In the upcoming second series, several original actors have already been revealed, but Evan Rachel Wood has just shared that she won’t rejoin the cast this time around.

In the original version, Wood acted as Sally’s oldest child, Kylie, with Alexandra Artrip portraying her younger sister, Antonia.

Through a series of posts on her Instagram Stories, Wood addressed speculations and clarified that she will not be reprising the role of Kylie for the upcoming film (according to The Hollywood Reporter).

Wood clarified that he wasn’t invited to rejoin the cast for the “Practical Magic” sequel, as this question has been asked frequently.

As a gamer, I shared my willingness to jump back into action, whether it was just a single scene or line. However, I was informed that they’re going for a new cast. I’m truly sorry to let down the fans. It wasn’t about control or choice; it was simply not up to me. If given the chance, I would have gladly reunited with my gaming squad once more.

Recently, Deadline announced that Joey King is set to portray one of Sally’s adult daughters, though it remains undecided if she will take on the role of either Kylie or Antonia at this point.

To date, it remains unclear when the sequel takes place relative to the original film, potentially due to this timing discrepancy that has led to the selection of younger actors for the roles of Sally’s offspring.

Enthusiasts of the initial movie were thrilled with recent updates as it was disclosed that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will once again play their quirky characters, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny.

Under the guidance of director Susanne Bier, some fresh faces have joined the crew. They are Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available now! You can purchase it at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
