If the next mayor of New York City were decided on Instagram, it would already be a wrap.
Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate, is gaining significant support from celebrities and is currently predicted to win his election comfortably next week.
This week, Mamdani faced significant criticism after it was revealed he had falsely claimed his aunt, who is Muslim, was the target of racial harassment in New York City following the 9/11 attacks.
Despite this, actor Pedro Pascal used his Instagram this week to encourage his fans to vote for a politician from the Bronx.
Honestly, it was so lovely to hear from Lupita Nyong’o about the election! She shared with me that she actually felt honored to be able to cast her vote for Mamdani – a really powerful statement, and it speaks volumes about his campaign.
Actor Mandy Patinkin, who is Jewish, publicly endorsed the leading candidate, describing them as the ideal choice for mayor of New York City.
Even though he promised to target the wealthiest residents, many celebrities have supported Mamdani since his surprising victory in the June primary election.
Model Emily Ratajkowski showed her support for him in a video, where she was wearing a ‘Hot Girls for Zohran’ t-shirt.

The list of supporters also includes actress Cynthia Nixon, musician Lorde, actor Ben Platt from Pitch Perfect, and Saturday Night Live cast members Bowen Yang and Sarah Sherman.
However, it’s proving difficult to find much support for Mamdani’s rival, ex-New York City mayor Andrew Cuomo.
After losing the Democratic primary to Ibrahim Mamdani, Chris Cuomo is now running as an independent. His only public endorsement comes from Woody Allen, the controversial director, who recently stated in a podcast that Cuomo would be a more effective leader.
The only well-known person to publicly support him is filmmaker Woody Allen, who recently stated in a podcast interview that Cuomo would perform ‘much better’ in the role.
Despite his Oscar wins, Allen is hardly the endorsement Cuomo would want.
I’ve been following this situation closely, and it’s just… complicated. Andrew Cuomo is trying to get back into the public eye after stepping down because of those harassment allegations. And then there’s Tim Allen, who’s also dealt with accusations, plus the really unsettling news about his marriage to his stepdaughter, who was only nineteen at the time. It’s a lot to take in, honestly.
Andrew Cuomo is trying to revive his political career after resigning due to sexual harassment allegations. Meanwhile, John Allen has also been accused of misconduct and is known for marrying the 19-year-old daughter of his much younger wife.
In September, the 89-year-old New Yorker stated on the ‘Honesty with Bari Weiss’ podcast that he planned to vote for Cuomo.

I believe Cuomo will be a more effective leader. He’s likely to be more efficient and generally perform better for the state of New York.
Allen acknowledged Mamdani’s good intentions, but suggested he doesn’t yet have the practical experience needed to succeed.
With just five days left until the election, a new poll from Emerson College, PIX11, and The Hill shows Mamdani with a significant and growing lead.
The 34-year-old candidate is currently leading the race with 50% of the vote, significantly ahead of Cuomo at 25% and Curtis Sliwa at 21%. This gives the candidate a 25-point lead.
Mamdani’s support has grown seven points since last month’s poll, while Sliwa gained 11 points.
As a lifestyle and trends expert, I’ve been following the mayoral race closely, and the latest polling data from Emerson College, shared with me by their executive director Spencer Kimball, shows a really interesting dynamic. It seems Mamdani isn’t just popular with one group – his lead is actually built on support from a diverse range of voters. Notably, he’s significantly increasing his appeal with Black voters, which is a key factor in his current position.
Support for Mamdani has increased significantly among Black voters, jumping from 50% in September to 71%. Meanwhile, Cuomo’s support in that same group has decreased by 10%.
Mamdani is currently leading among younger voters, with 69% of those under 50 planning to vote for him. He’s also popular with those who have already voted, receiving 33% of early ballots.

In this year’s mayoral election, voters said the biggest concern was the future of democracy (chosen by 30%), followed by the economy (25%) and the cost of housing (14%).
Despite efforts by wealthy donors and conservative groups to stop him, Mamdani continues to lead the race.
A number of wealthy individuals are leaving the city, expecting that the proposed policies – particularly plans to increase taxes on high earners – will be implemented.
Luxury realtor Frances Katzen told the Daily Mail that some people are preparing to leave New York if Maya Wiley wins the mayoral election.
Even wealthy buyers are putting off new apartment purchases. Realtor Jay Batra noted that several clients interested in properties priced between $3 and $5 million recently backed out of deals, and he believes their hesitation is linked to concerns about Mamdani potentially winning an election.
