LoL Worlds 2025 kicks off with record-breaking viewership

Wow, the T1 versus IG match at Worlds 2025 was insane! It broke all the viewership records – not just for the first day of the tournament, but for the entire Play-In stage. I’ve never seen numbers like that for League!

On October 14th, T1 and Invictus Gaming (IG), both highly-ranked teams from competitive regions, played a crucial match to determine the last team advancing to the Swiss Stage. The game was especially exciting for fans worldwide because it featured renowned players like Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok and Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.

The first day of the 2025 League of Legends World Championship broke viewership records, becoming the most-watched opening day in the event’s history.

LoL Worlds 2025 opening match viewership

LoL Worlds 2024 saw record-breaking viewership, hitting 1.4 million peak viewers. However, a match between T1 and IG surpassed that number by over 80%, reaching a peak of 2,503,910 viewers. YouTube was the most popular platform for watching, and the majority of viewers – 840,183 – were Korean speakers. This match set new records not only for opening day viewership but also for the entire Play-Ins stage in LoL Worlds history.

The event took place in China, but the reported viewer numbers don’t include those who watched on Chinese streaming services, so the total audience was probably larger. Viewers from English-speaking countries were highly engaged, as were fans in other parts of Asia, especially Vietnam and China (when watching outside of China).

T1 won against Invictus Gaming with a score of 3-1, knocking them out of the tournament. T1 will now face FlyQuest, the top seed from LTA, on October 15th.
