FNC vs WBG: Is the European League of Legends strong enough?
Following two exceptionally difficult matches against Dplus KIA and Top Esports, Fnatic finds themselves at their last opportunity to enter the 2024 League of Legends Worlds Knockout Stage. Their win over GAM Esports wasn’t sufficient, and now they must square off against one of China’s powerful LoL teams, Weibo Gaming. As the only European team to have triumphed at a LoL Worlds event, having won the championship in the initial 2011 tournament, will Fnatic step up to the challenge and secure victory on home ground?
As a gamer, I must admit, our initial run didn’t go as planned with back-to-back losses against Gen.G and G2 Esports. However, we managed to turn things around by beating Team Liquid from North America. Now, we’re facing another tough European challenge. Our recent games in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) haven’t been our best, but after falling short against T1 in the 2023 LoL Worlds Grand Finals, we’re more determined than ever to show that we’ve evolved and bring the trophy home this time.
Worlds 2024: Fnatic vs Weibo Gaming match recaps
Hey there! I’m thrilled to introduce you to the 2024 League of Legends Worlds Match Recaps – your go-to spot for reliving the pivotal instances in every FNC vs. WBG clash. Swing by once the matches have concluded. See you then, fellow enthusiast!
Match 1
The game started with an FNC invasion on the top side. Weibo has a huge start with a double kill for Xiaohu’s Lucian. Weibo does three void grubs that are very important to the snowball effect they need. On the top lane, FNC can get an important kill for Varus with a dive under Weibo’s tower. Even with the two early kills, FNC seems to be doing well in the game. 2v2 in the top, still looking better for Weibo Gaming. Fnatic loses the second top turret in less than 14 minutes, Harold and Drake.
In the bottom lane, I’m thrilled to report that FNC has been making fantastic pickups and managing to take down four players from Weibo! This was a massive battle for the European team, and Razork is playing exceptionally well! After a significant kill in the mid-lane, Fnatic took their first objective. Their gameplay is showing more confidence, and Xiaohu’s Lucian has been nothing short of impressive. The gold distribution is becoming more balanced, but Fnatic seems to be taking control of the map with their increased number of objectives.
In response to Fnatic’s effective map control and strategic picks, Weibo decided to adjust their approach by focusing more resources on defending their towers, particularly the mid one. The new strategy became necessary due to Fnatic’s increasing dominance over the game map.
The amazing engage from Jun’s Rell was perfect to ace Weibo and end the game. What a support! And the first games go to Fnatic.
Match 2
In the second game, Fnatic carries an air of assurance and manages to make Orianna use her spells prematurely. Yet, Weibo locates a significant skirmish in Fnatic’s jungle. The initial takedowns were secured by Breathe on Jax, but it wasn’t all gloomy for Fnatic as Miss Fortune also scored a kill.
Jun’s skills with Rell were simply outstanding, and his pick choices have been fantastic! The influence of Jun’s Rell in these matches is unbelievable. Weibo has been focusing on objectives to keep the game going. In a brilliant engage from Jun, Weibo was able to secure a positive result despite the fight, taking down two players from Fnatic.
Despite Fnatic’s efforts to maintain a gold lead, Breathe’s Jax was relentlessly pushing lanes on their side, making it difficult. The match progressed at a leisurely pace, with few skirmishes, mainly focused on farming resources.
In an instant, Weibo Gaming pulled off a quadra kill on Ezreal within Fnatic’s jungle. How did they do it? A brilliant combination from Orianna, Skarner, and Ezreal made it happen, completely altering the course of the game! Their patience and self-assuredness were evident.
In the first match, Fnatic found themselves needing to safeguard their base, yet they couldn’t devise any strategies to thwart Weibo Gaming. The outcome of the second game was sealed, marking a triumph for Weibo Gaming.
Match 3
This is the final opportunity for both teams to demonstrate their worth; if one of them loses, they’ll be forced to leave and return home. Fnatic has decided to introduce an as yet unseen champion, Swain, in the mid-lane. What could they possibly be planning?
Initially, it’s Fnatic who secures kills, thanks to a brilliant Vi gank. Weibo continues to focus on objectives, capturing Drake and three void grubs. In mid-lane, Swain meets his end, while a well-timed gank by Weibo results in a Rakan kill. Fnatic grows more bold, attempting aggressive plays on the bottom lane, capitalizing on an opportunity to eliminate under tower.
After Ganar was left alone farming on the top side in exchange for a mountain drake, Weibo started accumulating an impressive lead in gold. As the game progressed, Gnar became increasingly formidable, making the fights heavily favor Weibo Gaming. With a spectacular ace at Baron’s pit, Weibo Gaming solidified their dominance over Fnatic, leaving them with no viable counterplay. However, Weibo Gaming remains hopeful as they still have a shot at qualifying for the Knockout Stage. On the other hand, Fnatic must now prepare to return home.
Next games
Following the next match, Team Liquid and GAM Esports will square off for a shot at making it to the Knockout Stage. This showdown follows Fnatic versus Weibo Gaming and is set to begin immediately afterwards. The day’s first contest kicks off at 2 p.m. CEST, or 5 a.m. PT, or 8 a.m. ET. Only the victorious teams will proceed further in the competition.
Following the conclusion of the Team Liquid and GAM Esports matches, there’s another draw to decide who’ll face off against whom in the last three games of the Swiss Stage. I could potentially go up against Dplus KIA, FlyQuest, G2 Esports, or Bilibili Gaming if my team wins today.
