In 2027, League of Legends will get a major overhaul with a completely new client, updated visuals for the game map, changes to the rune system, and several other improvements.
The League of Legends developers recently shared a quick video announcing a highly anticipated update to the game client. They also talked about upcoming changes to runes, a complete visual refresh of the Summoner’s Rift map, and even more improvements planned for after 2026. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming!
League of Legends 2? Not happening!
Recently, there’s been talk of Riot Games creating a sequel to League of Legends, often referred to as ‘League of Legends 2’. However, developers Andrei Van Roon and Paul Bellezza have confirmed that such a game isn’t currently in development and won’t be released in the near future.
New LoL full-screen client
A highly anticipated update is on its way! The League of Legends client is getting a major overhaul. Instead of running as a separate program, it will be seamlessly integrated into the game itself. As Riot Meddler shared on X, the new client will offer a smoother, more unified experience and finally support full-screen mode, similar to VALORANT.
Summoner’s Rift visual update and runes
In addition to improvements to the League of Legends client, the Summoner’s Rift map is also getting an update. The team is redesigning the map with both a fresh look and new ways to play.
The rune system is getting some changes that will also affect how players prepare for games. Riot Pabro believes this will be a great opportunity to introduce new players to League of Legends. While details are limited right now, the developers plan to reveal more information between the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the LoL World Championship in 2026. These updates are scheduled to release in 2027.
We’ll be sharing lots of new updates for testing soon, and your feedback is really important as we continue to develop the game. According to Riot Meddled, this is all part of a larger effort to focus on what players want. They believe this next stage will build on recent progress and set the stage for the future of League of Legends.
Over the past month, we’ve shared a lot of details about what’s coming in League of Legends for the 2026 season. This includes changes to items, the removal of Atakhan, new objectives in lanes, and improvements to turrets, minions, and how ranked games work. Your thoughts and feedback will be crucial as we fine-tune these updates for the next season.
