We realized the experience of playing against Mel was more frustrating than we expected, and we’re making these changes to fix that.
Riot Games has announced the upcoming changes to League of Legends (LoL) in the next update. The patch includes a significant overhaul of the champion Mel, improvements to Briar, and adjustments to Bel’Veth to make her stronger later in the game, along with many other updates. You can find the full details for patch 26.3 below.
LoL patch 26.3 release date
Riot Games announced that LoL patch 26.3 will be released on February 4th. This patch marks the first significant update for the 2026 season, based on how players have been experiencing the game and their feedback. It includes changes to items, runes, how vision works, and overall balance adjustments, including improvements for AD junglers.
ARAM Mayhem is getting a big update with over 40 new items and sets, along with a way to track your progress. Ranked players will see some changes to the Aegis of Valor. Plus, the next part of the Demacia Rising story will be available in League of Legends patch 26.3.
LoL patch 26.3 notes
The latest League of Legends patch, 26.3, significantly updates Mel to make playing against her more enjoyable and give opponents more ways to succeed. Previously, Mel could completely avoid damage from abilities like Fizz’s ultimate with a well-timed move, but now her damage immunity has been changed to a shield. This means she’ll still take some damage, creating more balanced fights. The patch also improves the visual clarity of Mel’s abilities, Q and E, so players can more easily dodge them.
Riot Games acknowledged that powerful characters can sometimes lead to difficult matchups, but they also want players to have ways to overcome those challenges. They admitted they didn’t fully anticipate how frustrating it would be to play against Mel, and this update aims to address that. For players who enjoy playing Mel, they want to ensure she remains a viable and consistent character even after the initial ban phase, while still preserving the gameplay that her fans appreciate.
Riot Games is working to balance Mel so she’s less overwhelming to play against and more rewarding for those who choose to play her. While they anticipate some players might still choose to avoid playing against her by banning her, they don’t want her to be an automatic ban in every game.
