The first week of LoL Esports in 2025 was an exciting start to the year!

The initial week of the League of Legends (LoL) professional league has concluded, and it was filled with exciting and humorous moments. Here’s a recap of some of the key happenings from this first week of Split 1. From now on, Xpsp will be sharing weekly summaries of significant events in the pro play scene each week.

The League of Legends (LoL) competitive scene’s opening week has wrapped up, and it was a rollercoaster ride of thrilling and amusing incidents. Let’s take a look at some of the main highlights from Split 1’s first week. Xpsp will be delivering weekly recaps of major pro play events moving forward.

Weibo’s double victory on the LPL

In the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) this past week, not much variety occurred in terms of events. Nevertheless, it’s essential to bring attention to Weibo Gaming’s impressive start, securing two wins – one against OMG and another against UP. This outcome wasn’t unexpected for a team like Weibo. On the contrary, LNG suffered an unexpected loss against TT, which was deemed highly improbable by many. You can find all match schedules and results on this link.

In addition to its exciting moments, the Chinese league witnessed a notable comeback by Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang, a well-known Chinese player who took a break from his career. Now back in action, Doinb’s team, Ninjas in Pyjamas, triumphed over Invictus Gaming. This victory was especially significant as it also saw the return of Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok to Invictus Gaming. The occasion was filled with a grand celebration for Doinb, demonstrating the joy he feels about being back on the competitive scene.

Los Ratones’ winning debut on the NLC

Despite not being in the professional leagues, the initial game between Los Ratones and NORD Esports is worth noting because it ended with an impressive performance and a win for Los Ratones. It marks a promising start for the team and stands out as one of the most exciting League of Legends events this week. Not only did Los Ratones deliver an outstanding debut, but Coach Caedrel’s live stream drew a staggering 160,000 viewers during their first match – a viewership record that was previously broken by over 1000%.

Ruler vs Viper on the LCK Cup

One of the most thrilling League of Legends highlights this week was the remarkable comeback match of Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk in the LCK. The long-standing rivalry between Ruler and Park “Viper” Do-hyeon reemerged during the first week of the LCK Cup 2025. With a spectacular display against HLE, Gen.G clinched one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the week. Ruler demonstrated his seamless integration into the Gen.G team as if he had never departed.

A significant milestone at the LCK Cup occurred when a non-Korean player, DRX Trần “LazyFeel” Bảo Minh, emerged victorious in his first match ever. This 17-year-old League of Legends prodigy from Vietnam made his debut on the top tier with an outstanding performance that propelled his team to a win. It’s worth noting that LazyFeel was summoned at the last minute to fill in for Teddy, who was sick with flu. Despite facing challenges such as language barriers, given he struggles with communication in Korean, LazyFeel still managed to deliver exceptional games.

In their subsequent games, T1 initially lost to Dplus KIA but managed to secure a victory against DRX later on.

Karmine Corp destroys G2 Esports

The League of Legends Challenger (LEC) commenced on January 18th, featuring one of the most anticipated matches of the upcoming weeks: Karmine Corp versus G2 Esports. With Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert and Martin “Yike” Sundelin, former G2 Esports jungler, joining forces with Karmine Corp, they were no longer an easy opponent as they once were in the past. The highly anticipated match between these titans had everyone buzzing since Caliste was dubbed the next prodigy of League of Legends. Despite the long odds stacked against them, it was Karmine Corp who emerged victorious over G2 Esports in a spectacular fashion.

In their quest for victory, they arrived with a thirst for blood and achieved their goal. The game played by KC was simply extraordinary, making it one of the top League of Legends moments this week. We’re excited to observe how this team could shape up moving forward. Additionally, Karmine Corp claimed their second win of the week against Movistar KOI. On the other hand, G2 Esports suffered their second loss this week, signaling a rocky start for one of the favorite European teams in the current season.

Levi ran away from retirement

The League of Champions Play (LCP) is back this season with an exciting championship ahead. Notably, one of the most recognized Vietnamese players globally, Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh, will be participating in the event. Speculation about his retirement arose during the LoL Worlds 2024, but at 27 years old, Levi decided to postpone his retirement and continue playing for another year. So, get ready for more GAM action!

In the initial game, GAM Esports emerged victorious over Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS (SHG) with a score of 2-1. However, they suffered a defeat in the subsequent match against MGN Vikings Esports, losing 2-0.
