A new rumor suggests Loki and Shang-Chi might appear in the next Avengers movie, currently titled *Avengers: Doomsday*, which is expected to be released on December 18, 2026. This will be followed by *Avengers: Secret Wars* in theaters on December 17, 2027.
What are Loki and Shang-Chi’s potential roles in Avengers: Doomsday?
Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus reports that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is expected to play a major part in both upcoming Avengers movies, *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*. Perez also suggests that the knowledge Loki gained from O.B. in Season 2 of the *Loki* series could prove important in these films.
I have to say, after all the complex science – the physics, the quantum mechanics, everything OB has learned – it felt good when it finally mattered. It was like all that knowledge had to justify itself, and thankfully, it did. It was a satisfying payoff to see it all come together.
According to a source, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi could provide some comedic moments in the upcoming Doomsday film. Fans last saw Shang-Chi in 2021’s *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*, where it was hinted that the rings he received from his father might be attracting unwanted attention from a mysterious force.
He’s going to provide some much-needed humor. Since it’s his first time with so many powerful heroes, he might feel a little awkward at first,” Perez explained.
Okay, so the next Avengers film – currently titled *Avengers: Doomsday* – is in seriously good hands. The Russo brothers, who directed *Endgame*, are back calling the shots, and Stephen McFeely is writing the script, which is fantastic news. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth are returning, but here’s the really interesting bit: Downey Jr. won’t be playing Tony Stark this time around – he’s taking on the role of Doctor Doom! It’s a huge cast overall, bringing back a lot of familiar faces like Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and Letitia Wright, plus some exciting additions like Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. Honestly, with this team both in front of and behind the camera, this movie has the potential to be massive.
The next movie will bring back several familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Kevin Feige has hinted that the cast list isn’t complete and more actors will be announced soon, following the excitement generated by the initial casting reveal. Rumors are circulating that characters like Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man could also appear in the film.
