Loki may have “saved” the multiverse but the MCU has lost its way
As a gamer with over two decades of comic book-inspired adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when it comes to Marvel Studios. Once upon a time, the MCU was a beacon of hope for superhero fans worldwide, and we eagerly awaited each new installment with bated breath. But now, things have taken a turn for the multiverse.
In a playful adaptation of Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hector Barbossa’s dialogue, I would rephrase it as follows: “Marvel was once a simple tale, yet now it’s become a grand tapestry with countless threads. While branching narratives can be intriguing, the linear storyline that Marvel fans have grown to love over the years remains the heart of its charm.
Once upon a time, as a Marvel movie was set to debut, fans would eagerly jump on the speculation train. However, they no longer seem interested in it. With the multiverse taking hold in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, creators have limitless possibilities. Regrettably, our superheroes now appear lost and directionless.
Originally, we followed Captain Steve Rogers and Tony Stark as our guides, but it seems Marvel has veered off course. Indeed, with so many new additions to the franchise, the future presents an endless array of opportunities – and potentially more complexities.
Deadpool & Wolverine finally got together on screen, but at what cost?
The Merc with the Mouth didn’t change a bit when he made his MCU debut in Deadpool and Wolverine, maintaining his personal ‘decorum’. But Logan failed quite a bit at it. Hugh Jackman is sure lovable, but so was Logan in the movie (he shouldn’t be). That is an example of poor character development, bub.
In simpler terms, the movie doesn’t require a traditional villain. Instead, the excessive actions of Mr. Paradox seem to undermine the film’s core message. If Mobius had been more involved, it could have added depth to the story. To sum up, while _Deadpool and Wolverine_ is an excellent Marvel Cinematic Universe tale, upon closer inspection, you might notice several plot inconsistencies that deserve a satisfactory explanation.
As a die-hard fan, I get why Deadpool’s chaos fits perfectly with an illogical world. But now, more than ever, his movie needs to make sense – or the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be in jeopardy. If we continue adding too many timelines, it might just kill off the whole thing. Just because you can do anything doesn’t mean you always will, and that’s a lesson even Deadpool should learn.
In essence, it’s good to note that Wade Wilson (Deadpool) is now reunited with Logan (Wolverine), and ideally, Vanessa as well. As for the future, Marvel should aim to further flesh out this version of Wolverine, making him more formidable. Interestingly, his violent past depicted in other stories doesn’t quite match the character portrayed in the movie.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the rich potential of the epic duo, Deadpool and Wolverine. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that this collaboration might pose a challenge. With more timelines to manage and characters to portray accurately, there’s a risk of the Marvel Cinematic Universe becoming overburdened. This is an aspect that has, in fact, posed challenges for Marvel Studios in the past.
Let’s hope we are not in the ‘Endgame’ now
Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame”, things seemed to be progressing smoothly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man and Wanda Maximoff were grappling with their personal lives, while Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) and Sam Wilson (Falcon) embarked on a global mission to thwart an army of super soldiers known as Flag-Smashers. Meanwhile, The Watcher continued his vigilant watch over the universe.
After that, the story of the Eternals unfolded. They found the Avengers’ existence amusing, and the Time Variance Authority chuckled at theirs. This pattern continues, and we can only hope for more insights in the future. The Eternals serve as a connection to the MCU’s cosmic alliances with beings such as Knull. At present, there appears to be no immediate intention to reintroduce them, I’m afraid Harry Styles won’t be joining the cast anytime soon.
There are still many untold stories in the Marvel Cinatic Universe based on the source material, but it’s crucial to maintain justice in storytelling. Over the past few years, there has been an emphasis on quantity instead of quality, resulting in some highly anticipated films failing to meet fan and critic expectations. For instance, Thor: Love and Thunder and Secret Invasion are examples of this trend.
Moving ahead, there are many factors to consider. Various upcoming films and Disney Plus series will play crucial roles in shaping the forthcoming Avengers sequels, wrapping up the Multiverse Saga. Instead of producing content haphazardly, creators should focus on bridging projects that lead us seamlessly towards “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” This way, the Multiverse Saga can end with a more harmonious, satisfying conclusion.
What do you think about the upcoming Marvel stories? We would like to hear them.
