Loki Disney+ Showrunner Gives Hopeful Season 3 Update

After a long wait, there’s finally some news about a possible third season of Loki. It’s been almost two years since Season 2 finished on Disney+, which appeared to conclude the story of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and his adventures with the TVA. Even though the season finale felt like a definitive ending, viewers have been hoping for more episodes ever since it aired.

Recently, Loki showrunner Michael Waldron gave fans an encouraging update about the possibility of a third season. He discussed the show’s future and whether another set of episodes is likely, during a question-and-answer session on Reddit.

When questioned about potential future seasons of the popular streaming series, and if those plans might actually happen, Waldron hinted at the possibility, saying, “You never know…it could happen someday.”

Hi Mr. Michael, I recall you saying in an interview that the original ending for the first season of ‘Loki’ wasn’t quite the same as what we ultimately saw. Would you be willing to share some details about those earlier ideas? I’ve always been curious about what might have happened with Loki, Sylvie, He Who Remains, and the TVA if the story had ended there, without a second season.

I already wrote out the answer, but you never know what might happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps someday I’ll be able to show it to you instead of just telling you.

Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced a third season of Loki, key people at Marvel have talked about the possibility. In November 2024, Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, said there’s “always a chance” for Season 3, but clarified that it wasn’t being worked on at that moment.

Before that, when Season 2 was airing, producer Kevin Wright shared that he believed there were plenty of future stories to tell with Loki and within the world of the show.

Loki, as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston, will return to the big screen in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, marking his first appearance since the Disney+ series. He’ll be joined by familiar faces including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. as the formidable Doctor Doom.

Will Loki Season 3 Happen on Disney+?

Fans are still hoping for a third season of Loki. The first two seasons on Disney+ have been some of the most popular and well-received Marvel shows since Endgame, so many viewers would likely welcome another season if it were made.

The big question is whether Marvel Studios is planning a third season of Loki for Disney+ and if it would fit with where the Marvel universe currently stands on the streaming service.

Looking back, Loki feels like it came from a different time for Marvel TV. It was a show built for the long haul, with creators really taking their time between seasons – something we saw with both Season 1 and 2. Now, it seems like Marvel’s shifted gears. They’re focusing on shows that can easily come back year after year, like X-Men ’97 and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. It’s a totally different approach to their streaming content now.

Marvel hasn’t entirely stopped making individual, standalone projects. They still have titles like Wonder Man and VisionQuest planned for release in 2026, but their overall approach has shifted.

Whether or not there will be a third season of Loki probably depends on what fans think. If Marvel sees enough interest, they’ll at least consider making it happen.
