Logitech G announced that esports is entering a pivotal new phase. Recent, extensive global research shows that many members of Gen Z now see competitive gaming as a viable career path. Beyond that, esports is experiencing significant growth, with increasing mainstream acceptance and record numbers of viewers.

Esports emerges as a serious career choice among Gen Z

A recent study of over 18,000 people in 12 countries – including the UK and USA – found that around 8% would choose a career as a professional gamer if they could start over. Surprisingly, this is a higher percentage than those who would choose to be politicians, recruiters, or even professional race car drivers.

Esports are especially popular with Gen Z, with 15% of them being fans – much higher than older generations like Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers. It’s so appealing, it even made me want to become a professional gamer! What’s more, a majority of people worldwide now see esports as a real career option, with 67% of Gen Z and 60% of Millennials agreeing.

Esports is gaining popularity worldwide, with strong support in countries like Brazil, South Korea, China, and Switzerland, though some European nations remain more hesitant. Major events are drawing huge crowds and viewership numbers comparable to traditional sports – for example, the 2024 League of Legends World Final reached around 50 million viewers globally, and the 2025 Honor of Kings KPL Grand Finals in Beijing packed an arena with 62,000 fans.

Financial barriers and social doubts remain but can be tackled

While becoming a professional player is appealing, it’s not without its difficulties. Common concerns for those trying to make it include financial instability, strong competition, and a lack of support from family or the wider community. However, most people think these problems can be addressed through things like increased media attention, improved training resources, and better educational opportunities.

In 2024, the global esports audience hit 611 million and is expected to continue growing. The industry is currently worth $2.1 billion and is predicted to reach $7.5 billion by 2030. Despite ongoing discussions about its inclusion, the International Olympic Committee continues to plan for future Olympic Esports Games.

As Derek Perez, Head of Gaming Communications at Logitech G, points out, “Esports has become a major global phenomenon, offering real opportunities in tech, creative fields, and competitive careers.” I believe this development is a welcome change, especially considering how far esports has come since its beginnings over 50 years ago.

Okay, so I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz, and I finally checked out the new Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE. Honestly, the biggest thing for me is this new Haptic Inductive Trigger System – it lets you customize how the buttons feel and respond, which is awesome. Plus, it’s super fast and the clicks feel really precise thanks to the HERO 2 sensor. And the battery lasts forever! If you want to learn more, you can find all the details on logitechg.com.
