LNG Scout will play at Worlds 2024

As a dedicated follower of League of Legends and its players, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of empathy for LNG’s Scout throughout this ordeal. His journey from champion to contender, hindered by legal tangles and team disputes, is a testament to the complexities that professional esports can sometimes entail.

Confirming the participation of LNG’s Scout at Worlds 2024, which he could not attend earlier due to a legal disagreement.

Riot Games has announced some news regarding Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, the LNG mid-laner who was stuck in China due to a legal issue with his previous team, EDward Gaming (EDG). Fortunately, this legal dispute has been resolved, allowing Scout to participate in League of Legends Worlds 2024 (LoL Worlds 2024).

Why was Scout ineligible to compete?

Following their victory at LoL Worlds 2021 as part of EDG, Scout publicly expressed a desire to go back to his native country, South Korea. However, there have been whispers that he was discussing potential moves with other teams without EDG’s approval. Despite this longing to return home, Scout continued to play for EDG during the 2022 season.

It appears that Scout, a professional gamer, had an additional agreement with a Korean League of Legends team not acknowledged by Riot Games or the Global Contract Database. This unrecognized contract led to a lawsuit filed by EDG against Scout. As a result of being embroiled in this legal dispute, Scout was unable to travel from China to compete in the League of Legends Worlds 2024 tournament. Scout’s agency countered EDG’s claims, accusing them of dishonesty.

The following strategy involved locating a temporary replacement. In discussions with Riot Games, an unprecedented choice was made — a player from another team would stand in for LNG. Ultimately, Zeng “Yagao” Qi, mid-laner from JD Gaming, was selected.
