LL Cool J’s NCIS Comeback: Updates and a LaRoche Shakeup That Shocked Fans

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “After the Storm” are ahead!

Hello again, Sam Hanna! After the termination of NCIS: Hawaii last year following only three seasons, and a year after NCIS: Los Angeles ended its 14-season stint, LL Cool J reprised his role on the original series. The latest episode, titled “After the Storm,” has just concluded in this year’s TV schedule. In it, Sam Hanna assisted the NCIS team with this week’s case, but also provided updates about some of his colleagues from Los Angeles and Hawaii. What caught my interest, however, was the unexpected twist regarding the Deputy Director LaRoche plotline at the end.

Sam Hanna’s Updates On G. Callen, Hetty Lange and Jane Tennant

This week’s case centered around the brutal murders of three former Navy personnel in a motel room. Tragically, a traveling salesman in an adjacent room became unintentionally caught up in the violence. When a witness to the horrific scene requested to speak only with Sam Hanna, he was summoned to help. It was discovered that this man’s brother, Mark Davis, had previously served alongside Sam and had unfortunately become entangled with a private military company known as Iron Horizon. This organization was reportedly providing protection for Colombian warlords and unsavory individuals. If you have a Paramount+ subscription, you can watch “After the Storm” to learn more about the story. By the end of it all, Sam successfully saved Mark and effectively dismantled Iron Horizon’s criminal operation.

Amidst all this, fans in Los Angeles and Hawaii were given nods to characters like Chris O’Donnell’s G. Callen, Linda Hunt’s Hetty Lange, and Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant. When Jessica Knight brought up Callen and his ‘lone wolf’ persona compared to Sam, Sam revealed that his former partner, Anna Kolcheck, and their unborn child, aka “the pup,” are due soon. On the topic of parenthood, Sam, while distributing malassadas (a Portuguese fried pastry) to Knight, Torres, McGee, and Parker, shared that Jane Tennant had given him the recipe for baking as it keeps her busy with her 15-year-old daughter and a college-aged child. Time truly flies!

Towards the conclusion of “After the Storm,” Sam Hanna chose to step down from his role as a consultant on Capitol Hill, opting instead to rejoin the NCIS team. However, prior to resuming these duties, he has some personal matters to attend to first. Intriguingly, Director Vance inquired if this was connected to the speculation that Hetty Lange had been seen near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Sam remained cryptic about this, leaving viewers eager for more details, which we might uncover in NCIS Season 23, although LL Cool J’s character may not be present to provide these updates.

Vance Knows About McGee’s Investigation Into LaRoche

In last week’s episode, “Killer Instinct,” Seamus Dever’s character, Gabriel LaRoche, appeared to be presented in a more compassionate manner. However, Timothy McGee discovered evidence that reinforced his suspicions about LaRoche being as questionable as he initially thought. This newfound information has only strengthened McGee’s resolve to gather concrete proof. While he’s not exactly subtle about it, many at the NCIS DC office are aware of McGee’s dislike for LaRoche. Just as Sam Hanna was leaving, Director Vance called McGee up to his office.

Diona Reasonover Stepped In for Pauley Perrette on NCIS, and Here’s Her Take on Embracing the Role of Kasie:

Diona Reasonover assumed the character of Kasie from Pauley Perrette on NCIS, and here’s her perspective on taking ownership of this role.

Recently, I had a chat with Brian Dietzen from NCIS regarding our potential collaboration on a tribute episode for David McCallum. During our conversation, he shared some insights about the reactions of fans towards Ducky’s farewell.

At the start of the episode, McGee informed his team that he had a contact who planned to share an unreleased DOJ IG report heavily linked to LaRoche. This report was unexpectedly given to Vance, who warned McGee about meddling with LaRoche’s affairs, saying it could be dangerous. To avoid any mishaps, McGee must be completely sure of LaRoche’s guilt; otherwise, a single misstep could lead to trouble for everyone. Instead of directly telling McGee to halt his investigation into LaRoche, Vance mentioned he was going to attend a meeting in MTAC. Upon his return, the report would supposedly be returned to the DOJ. However, Vance didn’t explicitly ask McGee to leave his office.

As I found myself alone within the fortified walls of Vance’s office, I was granted the priceless opportunity to delve into the file at hand, searching for any clues that could strengthen my case against Gabriel LaRoche. Maintaining an expression devoid of emotion, I began to read through the report, sensing its potential worth. With merely two episodes left in NCIS Season 22, it was evident that time was running short; if this narrative wasn’t wrapping up in these remaining installments, we needed to draw a conclusion swiftly.
