Lizzo recently shared the reasons behind her decision to wait until her thirties to have sex, opening up about her personal life in a frank conversation.

Singer Lizzo, 37, revealed on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast that she had a goal to win a Grammy Award before becoming sexually active.

The singer admitted to previously pretending she matured later in life, telling Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco that she’d kept this up for a long time.

Following some speculation about her first time, Lizzo revealed it happened in 2020, but kept the identity of her partner private.

“That’s wild, right?” she said, wondering if the singer had intentionally created anticipation by postponing the release.

Lizzo revealed she hadn’t even considered the topic, explaining that she made a promise to herself as a young woman: she wouldn’t have sex until she won a Grammy.

I was totally stunned when I heard what happened, but Lizzo – who finally got her Grammy in January 2020, which was amazing! – quickly explained it wasn’t actually on Grammy night, but a little while afterwards.

‘I feel a weight off of my chest right now,’ she added.

It was really awkward. I was hanging out with my female friends one night, and out of nowhere, someone asked me if I was still a virgin.

It was really embarrassing, but I accidentally said, “I love the D.” I actually said that, and it helped me get through things for a bit.

Lizzo also reminisced about having her first kiss at 21, and that it was ‘terrible.’

Selena Gomez’s husband, Benny Blanco, seemed surprised to learn his first kiss happened when he was 21, saying, ‘That’s crazy!’

He questioned whether she knew how to kiss, pulling an awkward kissing face.

It was a really meaningful experience for me too,” Lizzo shared. “Growing up, my friends and I at church all promised each other we’d wait until marriage to start dating. But then I got older and was honestly terrified – it felt like no one was interested in kissing me.

She explained it happened on New Year’s Eve, and he pressured her into it. She was furious, feeling like her first kiss had been spoiled. She was really upset about it.

Lizzo has been dating Myke Wright since 2022.

They first met in 2016 while working together as hosts on MTV’s Wonderland music show.

In 2022, she opened up about their romance on The Howard Stern Show.

Lizzo and Wright had a fashionable evening in Los Angeles in January, following an art gallery event Wright hosted.

She left the venue with Wright, radiating confidence in a sparkling silver mini dress. The outfit featured a striking keyhole detail, and she completed the look with sheer black tights and pointed heels.

Despite their growing visibility, the pair have largely kept their relationship private.

During a March 2025 appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show, the singer playfully teased him about a 2022 interview where he’d publicly discussed her relationship.

Lizzo explained she was upset with Cohen because he publicly revealed personal information about her during a previous encounter. She recounted that he had asked her if she was ‘in love’ with Wright while he was present, which she considered a betrayal of her privacy, though she shared the story with a laugh.

Cohen acknowledged he’d made a mistake, explaining he didn’t realize the question would expose her relationship status.

‘I outed you,’ he acknowledged.

Lizzo later explained she felt caught off guard at the time.

It was a strange situation because we generally keep to ourselves, she explained. But he was right there, and I didn’t want to reject him and risk upsetting him.

Although the situation didn’t cause problems for the couple, Lizzo mentioned it received a lot of public attention.

She began, ‘It really started with the world, though.’ She believed that when people see a genuinely happy couple, there’s a tendency to try and tear them apart.
