Lizzie McGuire actor explains why “cursed” revival didn’t happen
Lizzie McGuire star Jake Thomas has explained why the show’s “cursed” revival didn’t happen.
2019 saw the announcement that Disney+ was planning a revival of the beloved ’00s series, Lizzie McGuire.
It appears that the series was expected to continue, focusing on a mature Lizzie, portrayed again by Hilary Duff. Yet, unfortunately, the eagerly awaited reboot was halted just a year later, even though some episodes had already been shot.

On the Zach Sang Show, Thomas, who portrayed Lizzie’s younger brother Matt, expressed his belief that the series was “afflicted” or “plagued,” following several unsuccessful attempts to revive it.
Thomas shared with the crowd the events leading up to the last renovation that ultimately led to its collapse.
As a gamer, I’ve been buzzing with whispers for quite some time now about this potential project – maybe a new flick, a show, or something else entirely. Yet, these murmurs never seemed substantial enough for me to truly get excited.
All of a sudden, everything seemed to make perfect sense, and remarkably, we managed to shoot two episodes towards the end of 2019. Regrettably, upon our return in early 2020, the pieces began to unravel.
Thomas asserted that the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 contributed significantly to the reboot’s ultimate failure, further stating: “The timing wasn’t right, and the conditions weren’t favorable.
It seems things often fall into place in a lucky manner, which is typical of Hollywood. That’s how I’ve always expressed it. Still, it’s disheartening because I had high hopes for bringing these characters back for fans. The anticipation was immense.
The star expressed uncertainty when asked if the series might return in the future, but maintained a positive outlook on its potential return.
The show remains incredibly meaningful for young adults today, and there’s clearly an appetite among this demographic to catch up on what their favorite characters are experiencing now. Since they grappled with the same challenges as us growing up, it would be captivating to witness their modern perspective on these issues.
