Liz Hayes ‘could go back to her old stomping grounds at Ten’ after Under Investigation was conspicuously absent from Channel Nine Upfronts
As a loyal viewer and admirer of Liz Hayes’ journalistic career spanning decades, I find myself deeply concerned about the potential departure of Under Investigation from Channel Nine. Liz has been a beacon of truth and justice in Australian television, and her work on this show has been nothing short of groundbreaking.
Liz Hayes is weighing up her future at Channel Nine, according to a report in New Idea.
The well-established 68-year-old television figure is contemplating her future steps, as her true crime series Under Investigation did not appear in the recent Nine Upfronts presentations.
Matt Stanton, the latest leader at Company Nine, has disclosed potential cost reductions amounting to as much as $50 million by July 2025. It’s increasingly looking like our series “Under Investigation” may not get a renewal for the upcoming season.
On Monday, New Idea reported that Liz is already preparing an exit strategy.
As a loyal devotee, I’m sharing an exclusive tidbit: Sources close to the situation hint that Hayes might be considering a return to her familiar turf at Network 10.
According to a reliable source, there’s been much discussion regarding Liz’s intended actions.
They mentioned that it’s possible for her to return to the familiar territory of Ten, the place where she first began, as stated earlier.
In August, it was disclosed by insiders of Channel Nine that the esteemed news program hosted by the veteran reporter was under consideration for termination, as part of broad cost-cutting measures and compulsory layoffs across the network.
Longtime Nine employees expressed surprise at the decision, especially since Hayes had recently been nominated for a Silver Logie award for her role as host of the series.
One concerned network employee shared with Daily Mail Australia: “If they’re willing to do whatever they find acceptable on Liz Hayes’ program, then it seems there are no limits for them.
‘Liz’s show is a nine-league star and she is the beloved symbol of our network. The mere thought of canceling it seems harsh – it implies that nothing or no one is immune to change.’
Since its debut six years back, Under Investigation has consistently gained popularity and garnered a significant fanbase during its weekly slot on Tuesdays.
At the 2024 Mid-Year Journalism Awards, hosted by the Walkley Foundation in June, they were honored with an award for media diversity, specifically for their investigation into the killing of Kumanjayi Walker by ex-Northern Territory police officer Zachary Rolfe.
At Under Investigation, it’s truly gratifying when we receive recognition, considering our compact but powerful team. Our constant goal remains undeterred – to unearth the facts in complex and substantial cases, as stated by Hayes previously.
Our initiative aims to shed light on complex and often grim narratives. However, our ultimate goal is to reveal the facts and crucially, provide an opportunity for the relatives and acquaintances of the affected to discover the truth about their loved ones.
It appears that although Hayes remains employed within the network, it’s been reported that several members of the tight-knit program team have already been let go.
