Oh my gosh, you guys, I nearly lost it when I heard! Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson – Little House sisters reunited after years of not speaking! Apparently, they had a falling out, and it broke my heart, honestly. But they finally patched things up and had this incredibly emotional reunion. It’s like my childhood is being restored, I’m seriously tearing up just thinking about it! They’re sisters, and seeing them reconnect just feels…right.
The 61-year-old actress, who recently explained why a Real Housewives star ignored her, posted a photo of the heartwarming occasion on her Instagram account over the weekend.
She and Anderson, age 63, starred as brother and sister in the popular historical drama Little House on the Prairie, which ran from 1974 to 1983.
Actor Gilbert was recently seen in the off-Broadway play Pen Pals in New York City, and Anderson was in the audience to support him, showing that they’ve resolved any past disagreements.
She wrote in the caption that different worlds were coming together, good things were happening, and people were finding healing and reconnection – a truly magical moment.
The actress shared that she’s been privately reconnecting with a sister, something she’s kept to herself for some time. They’ve been having long, heartfelt conversations, sharing memories, and catching up on each other’s lives, filled with both laughter and tears.

Gilbert was thrilled to reconnect with Melissa Anderson, explaining they have a deep and unique connection that no one else could possibly understand.
It’s just the Ingalls sisters now, and it feels amazing. We’re finally letting go of the past and building the close sisterly bond we’ve always dreamed of. It’s the best Christmas present we could ask for.
The actress also shared that a surprise audience member at the play was Broadway star Betty Buckley, revealed to be there by her castmate, Veanne Cox.
The four women stopped backstage to take a picture together, with Gilbert and Anderson posing side-by-side.
Someone wrote, ‘Congratulations on the performance! It makes me so happy to see you and Melissa together. Wishing you a magical holiday! ❤️’
Someone else commented that the story brought tears to their eyes, and they were thrilled to see the reconnection between the author and a person they shared a meaningful experience with.
It seriously made my day to see Melissa back! Honestly, I grew up watching them, so seeing them together again just fills me with so much happiness. It’s like reconnecting with old friends!

People expressed their joy online, with many sharing heart emojis and messages like “We love seeing you two together again!” and “This is wonderful news – we hope your relationship continues to thrive and you stay blessed.”
Melissa Gilbert played Laura Ingalls Wilder on Little House on the Prairie, while Kelly Anderson played her sister, Mary, in the NBC series.
The siblings appeared close on TV, but their real-life relationship was actually quite different.
In a 2010 interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Anderson admitted he didn’t remember much about their time together, explaining that they were very different people.
In her 2009 memoir, A Prairie Tale, Gilbert also explained that the close relationship between her and her sister was only portrayed for the cameras.
The actress wrote in her book, according to Entertainment Weekly, that despite being close in age and playing sisters, they never developed a true sisterly bond. She wasn’t sure why this was the case from the beginning.
She always seemed distant and reserved, and I often wonder if I simply didn’t know how to connect with her.
Gilbert added that it had also been difficult ‘to get along’ with Anderson while on set.

She also talked about her previous co-star in 2014 while on the show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
The When Calls the Heart actress explained that she and Melissa Sue Anderson never became particularly close, even for a short time. She phrased it as delicately as possible when the subject came up.
Gilbert went on to say that Anderson had also been ‘hateful’ as well as ‘horrid’ and ‘mean.’
She disliked me intensely and even physically assaulted me, knocking me right off the wagon – she literally used her elbow to push me off of it.
Both Gilbert and Anderson have put the past behind them, and now a reboot of Little House on the Prairie is being developed.
Netflix revealed in January that it’s creating a new version of the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Rebecca Sonnenshine is the showrunner and an executive producer, bringing experience from shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Boys to her current role.
She shared that she first fell in love with these books when she was five, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

These stories ignited my passion for writing and filmmaking, and I’m incredibly excited to bring them to a new audience worldwide with Netflix.
However, some fans were left furious over the upcoming project not long after the announcement.
One wrote on X in January, ‘Please don’t ruin another treasured piece of literature and Americana.’
One person wrote, ‘No thanks to a reimagining,’ and another social media user complained, ‘Why do they always have to ‘reimagine’ things? They’re just going to mess it up.’
In March, after a few months of development, the actors who would star in the series were announced.
Alice Halsey will star as Laura Ingalls, alongside Skywalker Hughes, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Luke Bracey.
Gilbert said in February that he hopes the new version will be more faithful to the source material than the previous adaptation was, based on what he’s heard.

The original ‘Little House’ books contain a wealth of interesting details and heartwarming stories.
She continued, ‘There’s no reason to go off-roading and adding characters that didn’t exist.
Our show only covers a small part of the larger ‘Little House’ story, and we took some creative liberties with the actual events.
Filming began in Canada earlier this year, but we don’t know when the movie will be released yet.
