Lisa Wilkinson makes appearance on The Project following controversial exit as axed show enters final days

On Wednesday, during the last episode of The Project, Lisa Wilkinson briefly popped up on screen.

Despite her absence from the live event, the previous joint host of the canceled program made a brief appearance in a compilation of past celebrity interviews, recorded years ago.

In the video, we see Wilkinson questioning the famous British singer Robbie Williams from 2020 about any new experiences he’s yet to have but would be eager to try.

Robbie’s answer was bleeped, with Lisa laughing, ‘I can’t use that’.

Although the show’s panel didn’t bring up Lisa, she was still featured in additional clips during the retrospective segment. One of these clips showed her conducting an interview with singer Celine Dion.

In the year 2018, Wilkinson found herself joining the network, following a well-known salary disagreement at Nine. It was then that she learned her Today co-host, Karl Stefanovic, was receiving a much larger paycheck compared to hers.

Everything was going well when she signed a new deal with Ten in 2021.

However, only a year after, she resigned from hosting The Project, which was her only on-screen position, due to the demanding and focused media scrutiny she experienced.

In November 2022, Wilkinson left The Project. Although she remained employed by Ten until the end of 2024, she didn’t make any further appearances on television.

Even though she took a long break from television, Wilkinson continued to be recognized by the public due to her involvement in a high-profile libel case.

She found herself involved in a legal dispute, alongside Bruce Lehrmann, who initiated a lawsuit against Network 10 and Wilkinson, regarding an interview with Brittany Higgins that aired on The Project and was also streamed online.

This week, Wilkinson broke her silence on the show’s shock cancellation.

More recently, the seasoned hostess posted a cherished collection of old photographs from her tenure on the show onto various social networking sites.

One image showcases Lisa grinning broadly as she strikes a pose with her previous colleagues, such as Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly, and Peter Helliar, on the set.

One individual demonstrated Lisa enjoying herself among various high-profile attendees featured on the show, such as Magda Szubanski, Tommy Little, Brian Littrell from the Backstreet Boys, and Nick Carter.

She captioned the gallery with some heartbreaking words.

Lisa started by saying, “The Project has come to an end. It was filled with so much talent, laughter, and vital stories – stories that might have gone untold if not for this project.

I thoroughly enjoyed being involved in everything and felt honored to be a part of it. My heartfelt affection goes out to each one of you, especially the dedicated and tireless team working behind the curtains.

‘Along with the audience, you were the true heart and soul of the show.’

It comes after The Project was officially axed this week and will air its final episode on June 27.

10 Network revealed the news earlier this month by expressing gratitude on Facebook to its viewers, followed by unveiling the new show that will take over the original one.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share this intriguing piece of news: Your favorite trio – Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald – are reported to be leaving the network. However, it seems that our beloved comedian, Sam Taunton, will still grace us with his appearances on other Ten shows. Exciting times ahead!

The Project debuted in July 2009, drawing over a million viewers in major cities during its peak popularity. Notably, it featured a rotating cast of celebrities such as Aly, Harris, Tunny, Hamish Macdonald, Rove McManus, Taunton, and Susie Youssef.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must express my admiration for a remarkable TV show that has swept the stage with an impressive collection of awards – notably, it garnered 11 prestigious Logie Awards! Among these accolades, two truly stand out: the coveted Gold Logies, which were bestowed upon its talented hosts, Aly and Bickmore, following a popular vote by viewers.

Yet, attendance has been decreasing in the past few years, and more recently, it drew approximately 238,000 to 357,000 viewers across the country.
