Lisa Kudrow’s Time Bandits has been canceled at Apple TV+ after just one season
As a seasoned gamer and a binge-watching connoisseur with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at the cancellation of Apple TV+’s “Time Bandits.” It seemed like an exciting adventure that had the potential to captivate both young and old audiences alike.
The time-travel escapades of the popular series, “Time Bandits,” are no more on Apple TV+. Following just a single season, the platform opted to terminate the show featuring Lisa Kudrow. This news comes as a letdown, although it was somewhat expected.
Approximately a month after the finale was released, Apple TV+ made a decision about the show’s future. Given that the series debuted on July 24, 2024 and its final episode was out by August 21, it’s clear that Apple TV+ didn’t waste much time in cancelling the fantasy adventure.
Deadline announced that the adventure show had been cancelled due to its failure to rank among the Nielsen Top 10 streaming shows within the initial week of release. The viewership numbers and the number of people who watch each episode are crucial factors for companies when deciding whether or not to continue a project. Since every series, regardless of size, requires financial investment, they need to assess if it’s financially viable to keep funding it.
Typically, Apple TV+ doesn’t axe series after just a single season. However, there have been instances where this has occurred. From a financial perspective, it’s understandable. That being said, I believe Apple TV+ could improve its promotional efforts significantly. Compared to competitors like Netflix, Hulu, and Max, Apple TV+ is not often the first choice for subscribers. This is largely due to insufficient marketing.
There’s actually some really good shows on Apple TV+, and Time Bandits was one of them. Though I think overall their projects for a younger audience need to be a bit better as well. Those family shows don’t usually draw many eyes to them. There needs to be some sort of change there if the streamer wants to continue producing them. And like I mentioned above, the marketing and promotion in general needs to get so much better.
The TV series titled “Time Bandits” had several advantages, especially with the addition of actors like David Kudrow from Our Flag Means Death and Taika Waititi attached to it. Moreover, it resonates with a lot of people since it’s based on the 1981 movie of the same name. Unfortunately, much like other television shows, this one too has met its end, putting an end to those exciting time travel adventures.
All 10 episodes of Time Bandits are streaming on Apple TV+.
