Lisa Curry’s Scary Hospital Stay Led Her to Quit Alcohol Forever!
Lisa Curry has disclosed that she has decided to abstain from drinking alcohol permanently, following a startling health incident that occurred during her vacation in Fiji.
On a Friday, the former Olympic swimmer, now 62 years old, posted an emotional and candid update on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself resting in a hospital bed in Queensland, appearing tired.
Lisa labeled a photo as ‘Just an overnight hospital visit,’ prior to sharing a somber account of her prolonged struggle with severe heart problems and her permanent choice to abstain from alcohol.
Approximately seventeen years back, I experienced Myocarditis at the age of 22, dealing with around 22,000 abnormal heartbeats daily. Additionally, I had a mitral valve prolapse, which is hereditary from my mother. Furthermore, I had a broken sternum, caused by a chiropractic appointment. That’s where Lisa started her story.
After that, he needed a defibrillator, contracted an infection, spent a month in the hospital receiving strong antibiotics, and ultimately returned home to live a changed life.
The legendary athlete revealed she had to permanently give up alcohol for her health.
She mentioned that about a year ago, she chose to stop drinking alcohol. However, during her trip to Fiji in October, on our final night, she decided to have a cocktail. It was extremely sweet and syrupy, and just ten minutes later, she experienced an unpleasant incident. She didn’t feel great after that.
Her defibrillator activated when her heartbeat reached an alarming 270 beats every minute – an extremely scary incident that solidified her resolve to abstain from alcohol completely.
Lisa emphasized to her audience that it’s crucial to treat any heart-related symptoms with seriousness, no matter how trivial they may appear initially, as she herself has recently developed atrial fibrillation (AF).
If you experience unusual sensations in your chest, arms, or back, or if something seems off or wrong to you, dial 000 for immediate assistance.
‘Don’t worry about if it ends up being nothing – being checked out is more important.’
She ended her post on a positive note, reassuring fans she was now at home recovering.
‘All is good. Slow recovery for two weeks now,’ she wrote.
After Lisa disclosed that she was going through recovery, following the heartbreaking loss of her daughter Jaimi at the age of 33 in 2020.

Last January, Lisa shared that she had returned to the gym following a period of nearly three and a half years filled with sorrow and mourning.
Due to her hip replacement surgery last year, she’s been attending these latest fitness training sessions.
Lisa injured herself in 2023 while husky dog sledding in Yukon, Canada.
She slipped on the ice which caused her to fall and break her hip.
In September 2020, Jaimi, the person Lisa used to be married to Grant Kenny, passed away following a prolonged struggle against alcoholism and an eating disorder.
