It’s been two years since the last episode of this fantastic, yet often overlooked, show from the creators of Yellowstone. Now, things are starting to move forward, and one of the stars has shared exciting news about production, along with a lot of buzz that’s sure to get viewers excited.
Zoe Saldaña, known for her roles in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and Avatar, is returning for another season of Special Ops: Lioness. James Jordan, who plays agent Two Cups and frequently collaborates with Taylor Sheridan, has hinted that Season 3 will be more ambitious and expansive than previous seasons.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Jordan Vogt-Roberts shared that filming for Season 3 of Lioness is nearing completion, with only about six weeks left. The series has already been filmed in locations around the world, featuring increasingly ambitious action sequences. While avoiding specific plot details, Vogt-Roberts described the upcoming season as having a much larger scope, taking place globally and promising a “fantastic” story.
‘Lioness’ Season 3 Gets More Epic… And More Intimate

Jordan shared that the upcoming third season of Lioness will be both grander in scope and more personal. The show will deeply explore the characters’ actions and motivations, and give viewers a closer look at why they are so loyal to Joe McNamara, the head of the Lioness program, played by Saldaña.
Stories are becoming more focused on character development, and that’s what viewers are really responding to. Once an audience connects with a character, they want to understand their motivations and inner lives. Taylor, as an actor, is particularly interested in exploring these depths, and honestly, we’re less concerned with the overall plot. What truly matters – to us and to the audience – is understanding why these characters do what they do, and that’s what keeps people engaged and wanting more. We’re thrilled to continue delving into that aspect of storytelling.
Premiering in July 2023, Special Ops: Lioness was created by Taylor Sheridan and stars an Academy Award-winning actor as Joe McNamara, a CIA agent who leads a covert ops team. The show, based on a real U.S. military program, centers around Joe’s efforts to recruit female operatives—known as “Lionesses”—and stop another large-scale terrorist attack, all while navigating the challenges of balancing her work and personal life.
