Linkin Park Releases First New Music Since 2017 Death of Lead Singer Chester Bennington

As a longtime fan of Linkin Park who vividly remembers the angst-filled days of my youth when their music echoed through my headphones and speakers alike, I must say that the new lineup feels like a breath of fresh air. Emily Armstrong’s powerful vocals harken back to the glory days of Chester Bennington while still carving out her own unique space in the band’s legacy.

Linkin Park, now with a fresh roster of members, are making their comeback by releasing their initial tracks since the passing of their frontman, Chester Bennington, in 2017.

On Thursday, I was part of a thrilling event where our band unveiled a livestream, introducing the fresh talents of Emily Armstrong on vocals and Colin Brittain behind the drums. They’ll be joining our returning members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn in the revamped Lineup of Linkin Park. Shinoda and I, Armstrong, will be sharing vocal responsibilities.

The new lineup debuted their single “The Emptiness Machine” as the opening number in the stream. Armstrong’s performance style maintains the band’s heritage, with her powerful vocals echoing Bennington without resorting to parody. This is clearly demonstrated on the second song of the set titled “Somewhere I Belong.”

Today holds a unique significance for us, stated Shinoda while introducing everyone, noting that Alex Feder was stepping in for Delson tonight. Addressing the crowd, he said, “Each one of you assumes the role of Chester Bennington this afternoon.”

The new Linkin Park also announced a new album, From Zero. It releases Nov. 15.

The rock-and-rap group was extremely popular commercially during the 2000s, with Bennington’s powerful vocals playing a significant role. Unfortunately, at the age of 41, he took his own life shortly after the release of their last album titled “One More Light.” Since then, Linkin Park has put out various re-releases, such as the 20th anniversary editions of “Hybrid Theory,” “Meteora,” and this year’s career retrospective compilation album called “Papercuts.”

Initially, our band was known as Xero, but later we became Linkin Park. The title of our upcoming album symbolizes our early, modest beginnings and the ongoing adventure we’re experiencing, as stated by Shinoda during the announcement.

Armstrong hails from the alt-rock band Dead Sara, while Brittain is a musician who has collaborated with groups like Papa Roach, One OK Rock, and All Time Low, among others. It was announced that he will be taking over from original drummer Rob Bourdon, who has chosen to take a step back, as confirmed by a representative of the band to The Associated Press.

As we spent more time collaborating with Emily and Colin, their exceptional skills, companionship, and the products of our collaboration became increasingly enjoyable, Shinoda stated. This fresh lineup makes us feel incredibly empowered, and the invigorating and dynamic music we’ve produced collectively is exhilarating. We’re combining the distinctive sound elements we’re recognized for while also venturing into new ones.

The group has revealed plans for their “From Zero World Tour,” which includes five arena performances in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg (Germany), London, and Seoul this month, as well as one in November in Bogotá, Colombia.
